Those outfits are totally different, no channeling.... Jackie O is not a black woman's fashion hero, it's just too funny black women are laughing at all these threads. Michelle has Oprah style to copy black women love color that's our african roots....... I'm sorry but Michelle idolizes Oprah and wears her hair the way Oprah use to. Michelle is considered a diesal Diva, that's a woman of any race who has nice defined arms....http://www.blackvoices.com/blogs/2009/03/31/diesel-divas-michelle-obama-jada-pinkett-and-more/

The Jackie O and Micelle O comparison is totally justified. We've only had 2 first ladies under 45, right? So, how can we not conpare.
Yes, each of these First Lady "O's" express a distinct style, but the comparison is reserved for the overall presence and impact each has / will have on fashion trends. And, so far Jackie still has my vote. Michelle has not made one fashion statement that I see mirrored by the American Women, or making its way to 7th Avenue sewing machines (I have had a fab argyle sweater with bling since Fall '07).
The younger ladies reading here have no clue what Jackie O's fashion statement did to this country - images today just cannot express how much buzz there was. I was just a little kid but I remember my Mom running around looking for the Must-Have pillbox hat!
On fashion in general, I really think the country's trend toward Always Casual has gone way too far. I went to the theatre over the holidays and most of the women under 30 looked like they came straight from their kids sandboxes. There's casual, and then there's appropriate. Without both, every day is just the same. I for one look forward to getting out of the day-2-day drab. Looking in the mirror and liking what I see/how I feel makes me smile.

Totally ridiculous comparison.

It's like comparing Michelle to Carla Bruni.

Each of these women are distinctly different and accomplished in her own right.

Michelle wears a lot of prét-a-porter, whereas the other two very wealthy women would never do that. Michelle's choices are interesting, sometimes a bit appalling, but always unique to herself.

Enough with the ridiculous comparisons with Jackie - THERE IS NO comparison - Jackie was THE First Lady of class, style and charm - none of which Michelle possesses.

That dreass and coat combo was very nice i was suprised that by the time she got to London she had changed, it was the first time i thought she dress right for the trip and it's importance.
Some of her other stuff i just can't get behind it's ashame because women are so petty and will pick her apart. But she does need help the right dress for the right party would be a start.

When will you people stop with the Jackie Kennedy comments? I don't know a single black woman who has ever revered Jackie Kennedy the way the rest of the world does. Since Michelle wasn't even born when Jackie was first lady, I hardly think Michelle was influenced by or is "channelling" Jackie-O. Michelle's look is not vastly different from that which most professional black women sport-classy, sophisticated and original and far from the bootyshakin' trashed out look that Beyonce and the entertainment industry have propagated as the look of black women. You all have time on your hands, so why don't you go start comparing apples to apples? Go find some "real" black women and start evaluating Michelle's style in light of her peers, of which you will find many stylish and gorgeous examples.

Thank you! We don't have an obsession with Jackie O. Other folks might, but we don't. We prefer to make our own mark. BTW, Jackie O didn't invent that look. She had all of her clothes imported from France. If Michelle Obama had done that, she would be called a traitor.

I agree. JO had her own style back then, and MO has her style now. Enough of the comparison. It just seems to appear to show that there is a fanatiscism for keeping the flame for a superiority complex.

You cannot compare Mo to Jackie O. There is no comparison.

The comparison is meant as a compliment and I'd view it that way. Michelle Obama has a fashion confidence that we do not usually see in First Ladies (not recently, anyway). I guess I'm not sure why anyone would be offended since no offense is meant. Let's just be happy about it!

You're either new or recently banned. Either way, go hug a land mine after you puke.

The comparison to Jackie O is too funny. I don't know why people try to that. It just does not work!

Besides being strikingly beautiful, Mrs. O is a walking advertisement for the benefits of physical fitness. Check out the leg muscles in the photo slideshow, obvious evidence of her regular workouts. I also think it's wonderful to see a Presidential couple so clearly in love with each other, and not just playing the roles expected of them, as it seems some have been in the past.

The comparison to Jackie is an obvious one. We have had a lot of nice first ladies, but very few beautiful ones.

So...if Michelle wears pearls she looks like Jackie? Honestly, that's the only similarity I see.

Michelle has a contemporary style that is appropriate for the original authentic person she is. I saw her in an early television appearance with other potential first ladies. She was by far the most personable, down to earth and intelligent. She caught my attention before I knew much at all about her or her husband.

She's black! How the he!! can she possibly LOOK like Jackie O? Jackie had style, but a beauty she wasn't. She doesn't act like Jackie O either. She grew up in the South Side of Chicago and had to earn her way. Jackie O came from a family of privilege. I think that the different paths to success they both took makes Michelle much more admirable.

its about time someone stated the obvious. Thank you! She is no Jackie O and will never be Jackie O and the comparison that people make is a disservice to Jackie O.

Why does the First Lady always have to be compared to "Jackie O?" Mrs. Obama has her own sense of style and he's modern, classy and just plain FAB!!!
