NEW YORK — A makeup artist and a fashion stylist claim in coordinated lawsuits that they got ugly treatment from Queen Latifah when she cheated them out of $1 million.

Celebrity cosmetology consultant Roxanna Floyd says she lost $700,000 when the rapper-actress failed to pay her for work she did between July 2005 and February 2008.

In a separate lawsuit, celebrity fashion stylist Susan Moses said she was cheated of $300,000 during the same period.

The lawsuits were filed Monday in federal court in Manhattan.

Amanda Silverman, a spokeswoman for the actress whose roles in movies include "Hairspray" and "Mad Money," says the lawsuits have no merit, but she can't comment more on pending litigation.

I sublet my apartment to a Hollywood diva once...it was for an employee of hers. The diva kept saying she'd pay me but months went by and nothing. Only after contacting the mutual friend who'd arranged the deal and having HER call, did I get the small sum but what a royal pain. Just saying...

OK, if someone was racking up over $20,000 a month in services...I don't think I would continue to do work for them for over 21/2 years. BTW no amount of makeup is worth $20,000 a month. Isn't Q a Cover Girl?

Thats what I was thinking... forget the cost of services...There is no way I am working from July 2005 through February 2008 having not been paid.

I'd be like Queen! Queen - We need to talk about LAST WEEKS services.
Let's make sure your people have my banking info or feel free to write a check or give me a money order LOL !

I don't buy it! I think they are lying.

I think they're lying, too. Queen just doesn't strike me as the type who would refuse to pay her own way.

Besides, I'd be duh duh duh duh dumb to work for that long and never see a penny. Celebrity is great...but no amount of wanting to work for a celebrity would allow me to forget about my own bottom line.

I just don't buy it.

you know that these people have a lot fo money and you should be getting paid "any day now." that and that promise of more work keeps them going back.

A lot of celebrities expect to get "free" or discounted service. This wouldn't surprise me. And a lot of them aren't as "rich" as we think. Remember they are "self-employed" and the taxman hits them really hard.

I'm with you and the person that said, why keep working for someone when they already owe you 20 grand, it sounds more like these makeup artist are trying to scam her. I will wait and see what Latifa response is. We haven't heard not one scandle about her since she has been in the music, movie business, the only thing I ever heard was about her brother getting killed in a motorcycle accident and she was devastated because she bought him the bike for his birthday.

Since when did Queen Latifah become a Republican?

I'm not surprised.

The word around New Orleans from several years ago was that she hired a man who was well known for his stunning Mardi Gras ball dresses to make her a dress. He made the dress and gave it to her. When he asked her to pay, the story goes that she refused and told him good luck trying to make her pay him because she was FAMOUS.

I have disliked her ever since and won't watch her.

"He made the dress and gave it to her."
I have also heard people just make/give things to her without her asking, sound like "gifts" to me, or is that just a way for someone to try and sue someone famous on little or no merit??

The dress makers who sew for the Mardi Gras balls don't NEED big publicity. There are usually a select few of them who are in business for themselves with no other staff.

The story goes that she came to this dress maker and wanted him to sew a silk dress with literally thousands of tiny beads and pearls. He made the dress and gave it to her expecting her to honor her end of the agreement and pay him for his work. According to the story, she refused and told him to just try and MAKE her pay. The man was allegedly out several hundred dollars for the materials alone, much less his time.

my girlfriend is a b-list actress and I've been around her when the dresses come by the load to her front door. They are begging her to wear their stuff and willing to give it to her for the small publicity. Designers will meet with her too to design a dress for free.

and hence, why celebrities believe that they shouldn't have to pay for any of this stuff.

I don't believe you, I have never heard anyone say, she has a diva attitude, stop being jealous of people because they made it.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:36 PM on 03/31/2009

It's not about being a diva, it's about being professional in your financial obligations. Jealousy has nothing to do with it if you make a living working with celebrities. We backstage people know what they really are like.

Doesn't surprise me, either. My cleaning lady works the night shift at a 7-Eleven near Latifah's home, and she says the Queen is a big fan of the five-finger discount.

Let it go to court- If The Queen has a counterclaim make it- No Bullshit allowed when courts happen let the fact finding mission occur- be judical minded (gossip and fast taliking just that- burden of proof reality)

What makes this suspicious is that their separate claims conveniently add up to a nice rounded figure of $1,000,000 .

Exactly my question. When they didn't get paid the first time they should've never gone back.

She used to rap eons ago, but how but "rapper-actress-singer"??? She did release an acclaimed singing album. Or does EVERY black artist get labeled "rappers" because editors can't think of calling them anything else? Because I highly doubt ANY of you ever heard her rap songs.

She has actually released 2 albums where she sings great classic songs from the Great American Songbook.....

Someone mentioned awhile ago that HuffPost tends to post negative articles about black artists.......well, I am beginning to see a pattern here as well.

Come on HuffPost, it is Motown's 50th Anniversary....there are a lot of positive stories you could be sharing.

Honestly, homogenized sheltered whites (like the ones that work this site) can't help themselves. They can't allow themselves to see blacks as humanized and decent without mitigating it with something. Obama's blackness is accepted because he's half-white, but his very identified as black wife is ravaged in the media. HuffPost won't touch POSITIVE stories about black stars because it doesn't drive traffic. People feast on seeing blacks at their worst. They revel in it as validation of their own deluded superiority.

If she failed to pay them I'm betting it's because her accountant failed to pay them and Latifah knew nothing about it. No story here.
