"Real Housewives" Countess Dumped By Her Count

Luann de Lesseps, the countess from "The Real Housewives of New York," is single. The 40-something American former model has been dumped via email by her 60-something husband Alex, with whom she has two kids.

Tuesday's NY Post confirms the rumors first reported Monday by New York Social Diary.

From the NYP:

A close pal said, "They decided to separate. She got wind he was seeing somebody and he didn't answer her when she called. He finally sent her an e-mail saying he was with an Ethiopian woman in Geneva and he was serious with her."

The revelation came as a shock to the countess, who celebrated her 16th anniversary with her husband on March 16.

"Luann was blindsided. She was just devastated," the close friend told Page Six. "They have basically lived apart for many years -- he lives in Europe and comes and goes as he pleases, but she never thought this would happen.

Word comes from across the sea, that New York Housewives' Luann deLesseps has flown off (desperately?) to Europe to see husband Alex in an attempt to save their crumbling marriage. Alex, the Count de Lesseps has, it is said on the streets of Geneva, taken up with a beautiful Ethiopian beauty who is not only quite a bit younger than he but also quite a bit younger than his wife.

In the meantime, the sixty-something count has slimmed down, tanned up and looks years younger, according to friends, which once again raises the age-old question: Ain't love grand?

Luann plans to keep the title, though. Her book on manners, "Class With the Countess," comes out next month.

I hate to admit that I watch this show but a few weeks ago the "Countess" was up in arms b/c one of the ladies said her husband was twenty years older than her! Come to find out he actually is! LOL. It is so funny that her claim to fame is being a countess and now that is gone.

The title was bogus to begin with. It was not granted by the King. A deLesseps ancestor granted it to himself.

The Countess was just on Real Housewives which is on now with that wacky Kelly person and her literary agent, presumably of her etiquette book, telling braggingly that she really should be a Duchess because her husbands family was offered the title by Napoleon of Duke for building the Suez Canal (she said), but he turned it down and accepted his lesser title of Count.

Then she said when people feel sorry for her they tell her "Countess" sounds better...

Lu Ann has become an unattractive and unsympathetic character this season as her own manners seem to have gone AWOL, as well as her own sensitivity to other people's feelings (Lu Ann's making Bethenny wrong when Bethenny was telling her that she was hurt by the airbrushing question--"You're too sensitive" is dismissive and rude; 'too sensitive' compared to what?).

Setting oneself out as an authority on manners and class is almost oxymoronic. Unless you are Ms. Manners, aka Judith Martin.

Their home in Manhattan is extremely modest, and one Filipina domestic who travels with them to the Hamptons is hardly an opulent lifestyle.

I think she may cling to the title because there was little else to go with it.

that was the one that had the nerve to ignore a person because they didn't refer to her as "countess" ....couldn­'t have happened to a better "person" From the sound of it, he's definitely trading up on his trophy wife collection. It's hilarious how these trophy wives tend to have a total useful life span about about 20 years before they are discarded like old shoes for the latest model by their super rich husbands. No surprise really if what you are marrying for is convenience or things instead of for love.

It's always sad when a marriage breaks up and as others have said the children do suffer most. I've caught a few episodes each season of the various series and I have to say that Luann stands out as someone who does show a touch of class, as well as Kelly, among the trashy women that they always manage to find for these shows.

In every series they find women with gold digging vapid ego trips. The shows hardly represent housewifes across America by any stretch of the imagination.

Ramona stands out as a vacuous floosie who's mouth is a WMD. The Real Housewifes of New York is hilarious to watch as the most surreal show. All of these women with the exception of Luann sound like truck drivers, anyone who wishes to aspire to elevate themselves would do well to search out some culture and cultivate some manners and better speech patterns before going on national TV.

I was born and have lived in Brooklyn for most of my life and thanks to my parents received a wonderful education for which I am very grateful and it is always disappointing to me when people revel in their lack of education yet act like they are better than others because they have money. All of the NY cast seem to be intimidated by people like Luann & Kelly who have a certain level of sohisticated class.

I like Jill and Betteney. Ramona and Alexa are a couple of snobs along with Luann. However, Luann was faithful to her husband even if she is a snob. He should be ashamed of himself.
