Stevie Nicks

people.com:

Stevie Nicks is 60 but she still feels like she's on the "edge of 17," thanks to super-efficient Power Plate workouts that have whipped her into incredible shape.

"When I gained my 30 lbs., it was because I went on tranquilizers for eight years," Nicks told PEOPLE Monday, the day before her new CD, The Soundstage Sessions, and Live in Chicago DVD hit stores. "I don't blame myself for that."

This woman is one of the greatest American songwriters ever, comparable to Woody Guthrie or Bob Dylan, and the media is obsessed with her appearance.

Will women ever be taken seriously in anything that they do?

Makes you wonder....

You are 100% correct, RickyPoo. It amazes me how undervalued she is as a songwriter.

She only wrote the top-selling single of the 70s, "Dreams", on the top-selling album (God, I'm dating myself by calling it that.) of the 70s, "Rumors".

Michael Jackson did the same thing with "Thriller" in the 80s and was lionized forever, despite living a far more controversial lifestyle and not doing squat creatively afterward.

Ms. Nicks is not only ignored by the media after having achieved the same thing with Fleetwood Mac in the 70s; she's also been ignored while being far more creative, successful and prolific than the so-called King of Pop, both with Fleetwood Mac as well as in her distinguished solo career, in the decades to follow.

Case rested.

But, hey, she looks GREAT, right?! That's all that matters.....

Love Stevie. Sick of our obsession with women's age, appearance and weight. You would think the worst thing that could happen to a woman is to get old and fat. I miss my zatig aunts and grandmothers who loved to cook, smother me in their chubby hands and arms. Just not the same going to grandma's house anymore -- dining on salads, hugging someone who's all skin and bones. Pass me the cookies anytime.

Good for her. Its not so easy to lose weight when getting older.

But shouldn't this story be about her VOICE?

Love Stevie Nicks. People want to criticize her; but there has not been another woman who has had her career or her talent. She wrote her own music and lyrics and plays instruments, which is not an easy thing to do -- and she's given up some happiness in the process. I really admire her. Thank you for the music, Miss Nicks. It is much appreciated.

Well, 50 is the new 30, so she is still quite young in and out. I feel so sorry for those who are 40-60 and behave as if they were their parents by neglecting technology and their looks.

I have loved her for 35 years and can't wait to see this tour.

I've been a Fleetwood Mac fan for 40 years.

Thanks for taking care of yourself, Stevie.

She's an awesome iconic figure from the golden days of rock who still has mad chops. That voice is smoked honey.

One weird thing I read. She said that of all the men in her life, her true soulmate was Jersey Joe Walsh of the Eagles. Who'd ever figure that?

The always Sensational Stevie Nicks is a phenomenal person.

I had the pleasure of working with her about twenty years ago when she was signed to a sub-label of Atco Records. I was an assistant in-house counsel there briefly, and she was a gracious, pleasant woman who never took herself too seriously.

I was her biggest fan then, and I still am today.

She's always seemed to me to be a role model for how not to live your life.

Glad to see she's back in shape, lookin good. But, tranquilizers? What was she on, horse tranquilizers? Sounds normal to me.

She was hooked on Klonopin (Clonazepam). It's a benzodiazepine, in the same class as Valium & Xanax. It's a bit stronger than those two, and I think it's more of an anti-convulsant too. Basically, when taken recreationally, it's used to mellow out.

Klonopin is nothing to play with either.

I had a friend who was addicted to it -- she was prescribed it for anxiety or something else, and one day, she was cooking in her kitchen, cutting up carrots on a board.

Well, she cut off the tip of her finger with the knife and didn't feel a thing.

That's when she knew she had a problem and got herself into treatment.

She was a full blown coke head in the 70's and 80's. I can imagine that the tranquilizers were so she wouldn't end up a haggard old witch, from the lack of sleep. When she wasn't downed out, she was having a zippidy do da day - for about 20 years.

Still like the music, though.
