Transatlantic Transformation! Michelle Obama Steps Off Plane In London Wearing Different Outfit (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post   |  Anya Strzemien   |   April 2, 2009 at 01:18 PM

I Like ItI Don’t Like It

When the Obamas departed Washington early Tuesday morning, Michelle was outfitted in a white Thakoon coat, black dress, and black heels, looking a little bit like Jackie Kennedy upon her trip to France in 1961.

But somewhere along the way she managed a mid-air makeover, and stepped off the plane at London's Stansted Airport in full cocktail attire: a mustard yellow Jason Wu (according to WWD) dress with a long black evening coat, cinched at the waist with her favorite Azzedine Alaia belt.

What do you think the Obamas did to pass the six-hour flight? Did they talk on the phone to their daughters? Watch movies? Eat cheeseburgers? Share your ideas below.

Or see all of Michelle Obama's London outfits here.

What did they do on the flight?

The President worked.

The First Lady might have helped. She probably talked to the girls at home.

Any time the First Lady wears Jason Wu, I think "the guy must be a misogynist."

I've had some pretty bland posts deleted. Interesting that Simonesmom's "mayo" comment is suitable for print.

I noticed the same thing jackson.

And the mayo comment was juvenile and disrespectful.

It's a long flight. They knew the schedule would be hectic in London. They both got into comfy clothes and enjoyed chatting with each other and just relaxing. It is a known fact, the food on AirForce One isn't gourmet, so they most likely had burgers or something simple. About an hour before landing, Mrs. Obama had her hair done and put on an amazing outfit. Just what was expected to represent our country in the very best light.

Nik101, FYI, Airforce One has 4,000 square feet of floor space on three levels, including an extensive suite for the President that features a large office, lavatory, and conference room. Air Force One includes a medical suite that can function as an operating room, and a doctor is permanently on board. The plane’s two food preparation galleys can feed 100 people at a time. Also, it has 5 chefs who can prepare gourmet food.

Nik101, the president is the most powerful man in the world, of course, Airforce One would have gourmet food on board. I bet you didn't know, you select your food from a menu. I saw Airforce One and Marine One on the Discovery Channel. If fact, it showed President Obama's first trip and meal on board Airforce One.

She is such a beautiful, confident, and yes, regal woman! ALL woman! Of course, she is intelligent and accomplished as well! I think it is just so great to have a FL that we want to show off to the world! There is a fascination with her now. It may die off after awhile. I just love our new first family!

I hope they both hopped into jeans as soon as they took off. I now travel in jeans but it doesn't matter if I show up at the airport that way. President Obama probably worked and Michelle probably read. They would have called the girls to say good night. I hope they got a chance to nap, too, as the time change is just grim.

At least Michelle has style. Laura Bush may be a nice lady but her pantsuits in different colors got boring. Also, Michelle is getting out with the wives of leaders and participating in visiting a hospital. This is something Laura Bush never did. It is refreshing to see a modern, first lady who complements her husband.

Please, can we not make digs at Laura? Not everyone is an accidental fashionista, but Laura still deserves our respect. No offense to you, I just hate to see people comparing her to Michelle.

I agree - and there's a cultural and age difference, too. Laura Bush didn't have Michelle's innate style, but I think the comparison is a bit unfair.

All's fair ih politics! Why are you so touchy about Laura Bush...who is no longer in the White House. (Thank God)...

These articles are so beneath Arianna Huffington...there are much more important things to read about than who liked or disliked what Michelle Obama wore...she always looks Tres' Chic!

So...she changed clothes? Shocking. Perhaps she took a nap on the flight over in a comfortable hoodie? If she hadn't changed, there'd be an uproar that she 'recycled' a dress. Just shocked that this qualifies as news.

What did Michelle wear to meet the queen?

Maybe they just hit turbulence and something got spilled on her original outfit. Spot cleaning products aren't suitable for use in a closed environment like an aircraft, and probably the fabric needs special care.
She's successful in her own right, by her own efforts, just married to her husband's job for a few years. She does what she thinks is right for her and her family, works to help others, wears what she likes, she's her own person. She's a great role model for all women. And she apparently has that great gift of making people around her smile - priceless.

Try to picture Cindy McCain going to a homeless shelter -- serving food, holding hands, talking and giving warm hugs. I you can, you're a better imaginer than I am.

only two months into Obama's term, and I'm already so sick of articles on Michelle Obama's clothes. She's not a walking, talking Barbie doll, for pity's sake. She's an intelligent, accomplished woman and in the past few weeks she has begun impressive initiatives for veterans and military families, education, engaging school children, even adding an organic garden to the White House lawn. But all you hear about is what designer she's wearing today. Pathetic.

hmmm....a 6 hour flight aboard Air Force One WITHOUT the girls. I'm sure eating cheeseburgers happened somewhere along that route, but I am willing to bet that it was after the 'Christening' of AF1. Could have been the reason for needing to change clothes....she accidentally got a 'mayo' stain on the dress.

;-)

Ok, Ok, I'm sorry...I know that was crude. I just had to go there. I love our first family!!!

Agree. The comment could have made the same reference without the mayo stain embellishment.

Sad to say but I had similar thoughts - who in their right mind would not have mile-highed AF1
