Campus Progress:

Earlier today, the Westboro Baptist Church, a Topeka, Kansas-based notorious anti-gay hate group infamous for protesting the funerals of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq and for its inflammatory "God hates fags" trademark slogan and website, protested outside the White House. The group was hoping, in the words of founder Fred Phelps (whose family members constitute the majority of the group), to "[p]ray for God to SHORTLY destroy Antichrist!"--that is, President Barack Obama.

Sexy ridicule is what the Phelps folks can't cope with, a Chicago frat house ran them off.
Duplicate this EVERYWHERE these mutants show up.
I'm sure some hunky congressional aides could run them out of DC on their lunch hour with just a boom box and boxers.

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. You shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
Even so every good tree brings forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree brings forth evil fruit.
A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
Every tree that brings not forth good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.
Wherefore by their fruits you shall know them.

(The fruits of these "christians" are what Christ warned about)

So the members of Westboro Baptist Church claim that President Obama is the anti-Christ? Really? What evidence is there to support such a claim? The Holy Bible identifies the characteristics of the antichrist. "Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son." (1 John 2:22 KJV)

So what do we know of Barack Obama? In an interview printed in Christianity Today Magazine from January 2008 (web-only), Sarah Pulliam and Ted Olsen ask candidate Barack Obama (on page 2), "You've talked about your experience walking down the aisle at Trinity United Church of Christ, and kneeling beneath the cross, having your sins redeemed, and submitting to God's will. Would you describe that as a conversion? Do you consider yourself born again?" Barack Obama replied, "I am a Christian, and I am a devout Christian. I believe in the redemptive death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. I believe that that faith gives me a path to be cleansed of sin and have eternal life. But most importantly, I believe in the example that Jesus set by feeding the hungry and healing the sick and always prioritizing the least of these over the powerful....Accepting Jesus Christ in my life has been a powerful guide for my conduct and my values and my ideals."

When John revealed to Jesus that the disciples found a man casting out demons in Jesus' name, they forbid the man "because he does not follow us." But what did Jesus think? "Do not forbid him....For he who is not against us is for us." (Mark 9:38-41 Modern KJV) That's good advice for judgmental people to heed.

These are the people who say that AIDS is God's punishment for homosexuality, yet their leader recently underwent treatment for prostate cancer. If disease is God's punishment for sin, then how do they square this?

HIV-AIDS doesn't discriminate; HIV-AIDS tries to kill everyone it infects. And if we want to determine a chosen life-style based upon lowest percentage of infections, then lesbians win.

The signs I see on this story tipifies the essense of what Anti.christ means to me. To me it means anything that would align Jesus' message of "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you" or even better still, "Love others as I have loved you," with hate. It is done a myriad of ways, but one thing is clear about Anti.christians--they are a body and they align themselves with hate. They make people think that Jesus was about hate--and you tell me what is more oF an antithesis to "love thy neighbor" than those signs in this article.

Think about it--if someone is telling you to hate for Jesus, even if they are guising this message with "hating the sin" ask yourself WWJD, and turn around and get out of there fast, they're H.A.T.E.R.S.

Are these idiots trying to start a civil war? Armageddon? Isn't that what they hope for? Obama has the support of the majority of people in the US and the world.

Tax them...they are not a religious organization and I don't care if taxing hate groups leads to a can of worms. If they want to protest than they should pay for the police who come out to protect us and them.

The signs they carry clearly defines their ignorance.

These people are full of pride when they should be full of shame.

Jesus sternly warned against religious hypocrites. (Luke 20:46,47) He said to beware of holy “acting” people who set themselves above others, taking advantage of their goodness!

It's absolutely astounding to me that the ones who gave Jesus the biggest headaches, so to speak, were the religious leaders of His day. Unfortunately, this is still true today. It was the religious leaders of Jesus’ day who actually incited the people to have Jesus mur*dered.

I couldn't agree with you more. It is the meek who shall inherit the Earth. These people are not doing God's work, they are a distraction from it.

But there are churches that realize the true calling and are going about doing good. There are and it pains us to see so many think that we all are judgemental haters. We're not. Many believe in restoration rather than condemnation.

The art of faith in my opinion:

Acceptance
Reflection
Trust

Also, Jesus said that a tree will be known by its fruit, and according to the fruit of many so called religious leaders, they are false profits, oops I mean prophets.

How does God speak to these people? Why are they so focused on Gays? Their message against the brave soldiers who have served and died for this country, that allows them to spew their filth, is loathsome. I don't think this type of hate speech is what the soldiers died for.

Let's be honest here: isn't everybody the anti-christ to Westboro Baptist Church? If Jesus descended from the Heavens down to DC, they'd still picket Him.

These folks are obviously not students of Scripture or they would know that President Obama cannot possibly be the AC. According to Scripture, the AC will fool even the "elect" because he will be so charismatic, convincing and perform many miracles that will wow the masses. It is hard to take these uninformed zea.lots seriously. Next....
