I'm not sure my comments will be posted as a quick skim of the posted comments reveals pretty much 100% slant, seems even handed debate is out of the question at HuffPost. But here goes...
Take a small nation, smaller than the state of California, population 5 million or so. Surround it with hostile conventional armies, insert several "irregular" (read "terrorist" - oops politically incorrect term there) armies into its territory and the territory of a neighbouring country, who then "negotiate"(read "blackmail") "peace" terms with said small nation. Then add a couple of superpowers, one which used to care about justice and freedom, but now cares more about money and appeasement, and the other a jaded ex-communist power which has been known to persecute these people in the past. Throw in a fascist religion which loves brutality more than compassion, and craves world domination more than world peace. So what do you get ? The current situation in Israel.

The peformance-based plan made the creation of a Palestinian state contingent on the Palestinians reining in militants (which Hamas did, UNTIL Israel's illegal blockade of food and commerce, without provocation; only then did rockets begin to be fired from Gaza to Israel). It also obligated Israel to freeze all settlement activity on Palestinian land (Another obligation Israel broke without provocation, purely for private profit).
The joint statement drafted at the 2007 conference, which was hosted by then U.S. president George Bush, declared: "We express our determination to bring an end to bloodshed, suffering and decades of conflict between our peoples, to usher in a new era of peace, based on freedom, security, justice, dignity, respect and mutual recognition, to propagate a culture
of peace and non-violence, and to confront terrorism and incitement, whether committed by Palestinians or Israelis.
"In furtherance of the goal of two states, Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace and security: We agree to immediately launch good faith bilateral negotiations in order to conclude a peace treaty resolving all outstanding issues, including all core issues, without exception, as specified in previous agreements.

But Israel has shown no good faith on food, health care or water rights for Palestinians.

OK, punk, then the United States is not obligated to deliver any more weapons to you, but if you don't keep paying us we'll treat you like you treated Gaza last November 5 - January 20.
Either all contracts are binding or none.
Meanwhile Netanyahu and Avigdor Lieberman have apparently now made a deal to build illegal settlements on occupied territory. Such deals and theft constitute one of the central reasons why there is no peace in the region.
What a shameful price to pay, Mr. Netanyahu, to be Prime Minister. Israel would be better served by someone with some integrity...

Newsflash for Av1. gdor L1e. ber. man - You'll be bound by whatever the US tells you to be bound by.
A1. P. AC and your Congressional and Senate lac. keys notwithstanding.
Don't like it? Feel free to go back to Moldova.
I would suggest we cut our foreign aid to Israel by 25%, and if that doesn't get their attention,
reduce it to 50% of its' former amount. We should keep it up, until they finally realize that the
tail, or what's below it, doesn't control the big dog.
I would suggest we cut it by %100, since all they are doing with all that hardware is attacking civilian infrastructure. Seriously what other army in the world has a fleet of armored /bulldozers/ that large?
Okay, they're not bound by Annapolis. We are bound only to protect Israel if they are attacked.
Should they provoke attack, such as in attacking Iran unilateraly, THEN WE ARE NOT BOUND TO PROTECT THEM.
Let's face it. These right wing wingnuts in Israel believe that all of Palestine rightfully belongs to them. As long as the Israelis keep electing these people and as long as the fundamentalists continue to have influence way beyond their numbers, there will be no sincere desire to dismantle the illegal settlements and move back to the pre-1967 borders. In other words, no peace.
Whatever. It's not like the nation of Israel isn't constitutionally racist, so what difference one more racist in the Knesset or in Cabinet makes is difficult to envisage. *Every* cabinet memer that nation has ever had has been a racist whose opinions and policies don't differ from Lieberman's in nothing of significance.
I call on Congress and the President to immediately halt any and all aid going to this communist country. They are warmongers, they are against peace. They need to recieve that same ultimatum we gave several other countries, you are either with us or against us.
Based on my observations of Israel's behavior of the past 50 years, Israel isn't bound by anything other than their insatiable desire to murder Palestinians & steal their land.
Well Joe Lieberman said Obama would get tested early in his presidency. President Obama, here's your test. Please study and come prepared.
Israel: "We just want your money and your latest weapons."
Lieberman is a real piece of work. He would make the West Bank one big Sabra massacre if he could.
Now that the Turks are cooperating with Palestininas by opening up Ottoman dead records on E. Jerusalem, anticipate the new government throwing out all pretense and starting even more blatant ethnic cleansing. What is so secret about LIeberman and Netanyahus oft stated goal of unfettered settlement expansion and bulldozing Palestinians out of the way.
These people do not care about us, and by us I earnestly include the majority of thinking Jews in the United States. The ruse of the ever retreating two state solution is losing it's value as smokescreen for the real intentions which is to produce a militarist ethnocracy. This is violation of the values of all thinking Jews.
Cut off all US aid to Israel and me quit buying their bonds, products or feeding tourism.
The IRS is finally rolling back on the 700 Club et al. using 501 3 c's to fund settlements and their slant drilling under Palestinian village wells. Very illegal, but Bush gave them cover. Now it looks like there may even be prosectutions.
The world is waking up and someday justice will come for 60 years of deceipt, sub-apartheidization of Palestinians and the shunning of everything beautiful and nobel that Judaism stood for for centuries by the right-wingnuts..
Let them try and take on Iran.
The US government needs to get away from Israel.
If they were an asset, it is one thing.
But, they have become dead weight and need to go.
We have many problems here in the US.
Fighting with and/or supporting this Iran effort has no
logic to American citizens.
We thought it would end with Barack's election, but
they still want more.
