David Letterman, who infamously told Bill O'Reilly in 2006 that "about 60 percent of what you say is crap," had his old bête noire back on his show on Tuesday night.

At the start of the show, Letterman couldn't help lashing into the Fox News host, saying "I wish I was smart enough to make him look ridiculous... He's going to come out here all puffed up."

From practically the moment O'Reilly sat down, the sparks flew along with some surprising topics upon which they agreed.

"I think of you as a goon," Letterman point-blank told O'Reilly. Then, holding up the cover of O'Reilly's book, "A Bold Fresh Piece of Humanity," which has a photo of O'Reilly as a boy, Letterman quipped, "I look at that and I see this sweet, adorable kid... I have a sweet adorable kid and I wonder, 'What if he too becomes a goon?'"

And Letterman launched into O'Reilly positions, such as his boycott of Sean Penn movies, giving him the ultimate back-handed compliment: "You're too smart to believe what you say."

When Letterman focused on Rush Limbaugh, implying that he's the face of the Republican party, O'Reilly alluded to the radio host's power, saying that "I don't think any Republicans or conservatives want to offend the man." And he strove to distinguish himself from Limbaugh and fellow Fox News personality Glenn Beck, claiming he's different from them because he's a journalist: "I got a degree, I paid a lot of money for... I went out, covered stories... those guys are basically entertainers... we give information"

O'Reilly also revealed that former Vice President Dick Cheney refused to come on his program, adding that he doesn't like Cheney: "We asked him a million times... he wouldn't come on."

And he laughed about the famous video of him cursing out his staff - "I have so much better stuff than that... Irish guys curse. That's in the DNA... We're loud and say bad words."

People on the right love O'Reilly because they do not want news anyway. They want a movement leader. The news is unimportant to them, as they prefer false narratives, which Fox News willingly provides. O'Reilly is the leader of this bunch of disenchanted folks who fear the rest of America is passing them up.

So what exactly is MSNBC??? I think they are as guilty of false narratives as anyone. Geez.

What is MSNBC? MSNBC is owned General Electric, one of the world's leading military contractors, which consistently donates far more to the Republican party than it does to the democratic party. I am sick of this myth of the "liberal media." GE will allow MSNBC to run what it has to to get good ratings, but in the end, it is run by a large, conservative corporation, as are CNN and Fox News.

Yes, then I am sure you can give us just a few examples, as anyone can who has the misfortune of listening to Fox. Even a left-wing outfit like Mother Jones magazine has much more credibility, honesty, and integrity than Fox. Fox is the lowest rung of journalism.

On Dave Letterman , O'Reilly asked Dave why he wanted to bring up Rush Limbaugh's drug use and "cheap shot" him. Dave does not know because he does not tune in to O'Reilly's show, but Bill spends his entire hour cheapshoting and making personal attacks on people on the left. However, Bill will take the high road in front of a national audience and when talking about a fellow conservative.

Why didn't Bill send Jesse "Dirty" Waters after Cheney then?

Bill wouldn't send Jesse after Cheney. Jesse wouldn't have come back. Jesse and his cameraman would have found themselves in GITMO...if they were lucky.

But, Dave?
A GOON is a toughguy henchman who beats up people for the boss.
O'Reilly couldn't beat up anyone except maybe Ailes or Murdoch.

I really do not understand why people have to get personal with there politics, what does it say about someone or their argument when they cannot express themselves with out name calling and insulting one another, this my friends is why the world has little respect for finger pointing holier than thou republicans and democrats that are destroying this country for their own personal gain.

mongoose63124- I think it is interesting that I've never seen/heard a funny Republic-con. Come to think of it, I've never run across a talented Republic-con musician or artist either. Why is that?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:38 PM on 04/01/2009

judging by your use of "republic-con" the fact that you havent seen/heard a funny republican or come across a talented republican musician or artist probably says more about your taste in politics then any inherent lack of talent of those who disagree with you politically. Im guessing you don't enjoy country music or the blue collar comedy tour or south park or dennis miller. Which is fine. I don't like country music or the blue collar guys either...but millions of americans do. And im guessing those millions of Americans probably dont think that the people you view as funny or talented (im guessing you like colbert and stewart and the rest) are particularly funny.

basically, it all comes down to your own views and taste. Or maybe democrats/liberals have a monopoly on talent and humor :rolls eyes:

First of all why would you assume that the Blue Collar guys are repubs? For one thing, blue collar workers tend to be dem and for another thing, Larry the Cable Guy is buddies with Tobey Keith who swears up and down that he's a registered dem. Secondly, when has Dennis Miller ever been funny?! lol
