Jamie Oliver

Jamie Oliver is making dinner at the G-20 Summit tonight. The Naked Chef sounded a little starstruck on his website, writing "I've cooked for some pretty big names in my day but this is so exciting."

He also listed an impressively healthy-looking menu:

JAMIE OLIVER MENU FOR WORKING DINNER OF G-20, 1st April 2009

Baked Scottish Salmon with Seashore Vegetables, Broad Beans, Herb Garden Salad, Mayonnaise and Wild Garlic-scented Irish Soda bread

• Vegetarian option is Childwickbury Goat's Cheese with Roast Shallots, Seashore Vegetables, Herb Green Salad and Wild Garlic-scented Irish Soda Bread (no mayo)

Slow-Roasted Shoulder of Welsh Lamb, very first of the season Jersey Royals, first of the season Asparagus and Wild St George Mushrooms. Mint Sauce and Gravy

• Vegetarian option is Lovage & Potato Dumplings with first of the season Asparagus and Wild St George Mushrooms

Hot Bakewell Tart with Home-made Custard

I would venture a guess that Gordon Ramsey (a primo Brit chef) is simply twiddling in his knickers...

What is cute, on one picture Chancellor Merkl has her blackberry out and is texting, as Obama is sitting next to her, he is (sadly?) looking the other way.

What a coincidence! This is what I had for dinner last night! But instead of Scottish Salmon I had cold pizza and Twinkie instead of Irish Soda bread.

Was that a vegetarian pizza or the "All the meat you can eat!" with the cheese roll-up crust variety?

Yesterday for dinner I have Hamburger St. McDonald with a side of Verde Pickles and 1st of the season Iceberg Lettuce de California.

It was served with Potatoes Frenchy Friedoed with an reduced aged Tomato Del Monte vinaigrette sauce.

The meal was paired with a Sparkling Qoqaqola served in a waxened cup.

I had prawn salad in a little place in Canterbury once and it was one of the best meals I've ever eaten. I wish I liked salmon because it's everywhere, and highly recommended as a "healthy" food. Unfortunately, I simply cannot eat it.

As for the lamb, NO WAY! But the rest of it sounds terrific! Had they served it with a good peice of beef with horseradish sauce, I'd have been in heaven.

His food sounds normal, salmon, lamb, asparagus, other vegetables. I'm glad he didn't serve something weird like steak and kidneys, or something like that.

Jamie has a show on Saturdays on the Food Channel....Jamie at Home. Even better than his earlier series. Or maybe these are reruns of an older series and I have just been asleep at the stove.

I had salmon tonight myself. Only mine was simply broiled and served with steamed broccoli and carrots. Glass of Turning Leaf Sauvignon Blanc. My mean was finished in 15 minutes - sounds like theirs must have lasted all night! Never did understand courses in meals.

farm-raised salmon is horrible for the environment and doesn't even approach taste or color of wild. It's only available twice a year and at about 20€/k but it is so worth it! I hope others find the joy of eating only the real thing and leave these ecological and health damaging trend foods behind!

I don't get this menu. Is it 4 options to choose from or just a 2 with 2 courses?

2 courses.......2 choices/ meat eating or vegan!
I thought they were going to serve modest priced regular folks, food, because of the recession/depression..For most of my life, salmon & lamb were as regular in my diet as burgers and chicken. Can't afford salmon any more, & I live 4 or 5 miles from a salmon farm...........the market doesn't even carry lamb, in any form.

Prices often depend on where you live. Salmon and lamb aren't exactly expensive delicacies in England. They aren't in my part of the States, either, where fish and lamb ARE "regular" food.

How do you define "regular" food fit to serve the heads of nations? Deep fried cod n' chips?

Uhm salmon and lamb aren't expensive in the areas I have lived (all except for one, where you couldn't even find it).

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:06 PM on 04/01/2009

It was relatively low cost. JO estimated that the meal would cost between 11£-12£ to be reproduced at home-and that is cheap for London.

Jamie is not a very adventurous cook, and some of his ideas leave one perplexed. Garlic scented soda bread???? WHY???? couldn't leave well enough alone, to be different?? I could go on, but I won't he's ok, just not brilliant

No, you're right, it is nothiong particularly interesting and in fact quite ordinary, smoke and mirrors. And things like garlic scented soda bread??? As I said before, why, why, why, Jamie is highly over-rated, highly, good tv chef I guess. They should have asked Fergus Henderson from St John's, now that's some gooood eatin. Without all the fancy names covering up blandness.
