G-20 Group Photo: Spot Who Is Missing

Huffington Post   First Posted: 05/03/09 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 02:10 PM ET

Canada's CBC News reports that the traditional photo of the G-20 leaders had to be retaken after one world leader failed to show up.

[Canadian Primer Minister]Harper met with his officials following the first working session in London on Thursday morning when the picture -- dubbed the family photo -- was scheduled to be taken.

Officials said the prime minister was getting a quick briefing on changes to the communiqué that is expected to be released by the G20 at the end of the summit.

But the BBC has a different story. They say Harper was using the restroom during the shot.

The Globe and Mail says a second "family photo" has been taken.

While the group assembled for the second time, a smiling U.S. President Barack Obama sidled over to shake the wayward PM's hand.

think about it... the people with the most money do not agree with obama's way forward...

is this not significant?

they exist because of our cultural inheritance...

let's not overturn it... let's work with it... make it better... you underestimate the benefits of societal stability...

whoa kidd0s... you realize how shallow things are... these are ephemeral constructs... yet the masses so easily persuaded... Progressives, please correctly learn the lessons of the 20th century... your legacy traces it's way back to the lamentable H-man.. of thirties We|mar...

no hard feelings... but pr0gressivism is not worthy of reviving in this era... not just yet.

i am open to re-instituting pr0gressivism once we all have a mcdonalds & starbucks on the corner of every villaH around the world... capitalism is manageable... s0cialism invites the worst of human|ty to gain unhealthy POWAH over other manage-ably greeedy humans... they'll play by the rules... just like they do when they visit casino capitalism...

President bows to Saudi King. Have something to do with campaign finances, or tuition paid by Saudis at Harvard, or more? Many think it's symbolic of more, much more:

Boy, thank god you empty-headed, uneducated dolts aren't in charge of the country anymore. You wouldn't know the truth if it came and smacked you upside the head.

I think Chancellor Merkel has a thing for President Obama. After Bush, BO must be a splendid improvement to her.

Yea, at least she doesn't have to worry about being molested by Bush anymore.

Notice that when PM Harper missed the photo by being in the loo or wherever, when he finally arrived for the retake photo, that it was Mr. Obama who welcomed him back with a handshake, relieving his embarrassment somewhat, I'm sure.

That folks, was a class act by a very gracious gentleman. That sort of thoughtfulness and grace seems to be a consistent pattern in our President's behavior. God truly lives in the details of what men do, in addition to their bold strokes and big ideas. Mr. Obama covers it all.

I admired the guy when I was voting for him, and after having seen him in action for ten weeks or whatever, my admiration has ratcheted up several notches. If the G20 had held an election for President Of The World, our guy would have won.

Do they have a caption so we can know who these people are. I know some of the leaders, but not all of them.

If there are 20 countries represented, why are their 30 heads of state in the photo?

Also, what a shame to see 30 world leaders assembled, only 2 of which are women.

I am very pleased with President Obama's reception at this Summit. We may FINALLY be on our way too regaining the respect and acceptance of the world community.

Can you even imagine how McCain would have come across? With his scowling, lack of economic savoir-faire and inflexibility ... this gig would have produced some very embarrassing news coverage.

Sorry, but Obama's being pushed around. Not that I mind it. I'm Canadian. It is, indeed, very nice to see that for once the interests of America do not trump the interests of the rest of the world. But Americans are going to have to at some point accept the fact that if other nations finally get the voice they deserve it will mean that the US will not be able to rob and pillage the rest of the world in the ways they have done in the past. Which will ultimately mean a lower standard of living for most Americans as you are forced to stop living the high life on the backs of the rest of us.

OK I dig that Obama seems to be fitting in and having fun, but is any real work being done during this event. I mean people are poor, out of work and feeling the pinch of what the people above allowed to happen to our world. Lets get past the patty cake of bathroom hi jinks and get down to the real issues.

I have been reading and I have been listening and you know what I have been hearing.

OMG The first lady touched the Queen. OMG the first lady is wearing J crew. OMG Obama gave the Queen an Ipod. OMG Jamie Olive cooked a meal.

There as been very little real news that has come out about this event. Other then photo ops and fake news. I want these people to do more then simple measures I want them to be held really accountable for the wrongs they did and I want them to have a real plan and a real initiatives to fix problems. Who cares about dinner and pictures, to me it's just wasting money that they don't have.

No he did not. Bush was a joke, he was a man piloted by Cheney and Rove and those two individual not only put lives and family at risk, but they created the huge problem we have now by turning a blind eye and allowing their friends to get rich.

It's rather humorous to see all the comments of swooning over the President of Argentina over her looks. Wasn't that one of the key aspects of another female politician that was decried? *Wink Starbursts wink* You betcha.

Though it's quite a scene to view, our President having such a positive impact on other world leaders.
09:25 AM on 04/03/2009
Yes, but the swooning over looks comes AFTER recognizing that the Argentinian President has a BRAIN- sadly lacking in the "wink, wink" candidate.
03:56 PM on 04/02/2009
Yes, some are smiling openly and some are smiling tightly. This is a happier group than in the past but they are by no means satisfied with all of the decisions nor should they be. The world is on the brink of chaos, holding its breath, hoping to avoid the cataclysm. The average world citizen will once again be asked to assume financial responsibility for the outrageous damage caused by the greed of the world's banks and multinationals, rich, spoiled, reckless brats who create havoc then run to Daddy government to fix it. Many of these same average world citizens aren't at all happy with the decisions reached at the summit, especially since irresponsible brats won't be held accountable for the wreckage.
