Talking Points Memo:

Yesterday, the website Consortium News published an article by Charlotte Dennett pouring some cold water on the hope many liberals have that Congress will form a truth and reconciliation commission to investigate Bush-era torture and other instances of wrongdoing. Dennett reported that, at a meeting with Sen. Patrick Leahy, the Judiciary committee chairman had said the idea was dead in the water. "[I]t's not going to happen," Leahy reportedly said.

We don't need a truth commission...We need Indictments and trips to either The Hague or to Madrid if we are either unable of incapable of bringing cases ourselves...

Good. We don't need nor can afford a "Truth" commission. We need an INVESTIGATION and if found guilty by evidence, PROSECUTION for War Crimes and Crimes against Humanity. I knew Patrick was blowing hot air, anyway. Britain and Spain are looking into Bush's crimes and if Barack doesn't get on board, then he's complicit too. The ignorant amongst us think the economy is the most important thing, but it's no good having a little money in your pocket if your not free (when you live in a country the purports to be the "Home of the Brave and Land of the Free"). America is no longer a country to be looked up to and admired as much as to be feared and loathed by the rest of the world.

Bush has already been tried and convicted. He was tried in the court of public opinion and his punishment is his presidency, The Bush legacy which will always be, The Iraq war, no W.M.D.s, Abu Ghraib, and Guantanamo detainees tortures, N.S.A. warrantless surveillance, Hurricane Katrina, and the economic crisis of 2008.

Truth Commisson was not Good- For It left OUT Criminal Charges

Special Prosecutor- Case by Case

aclu and ccr -- the evidence for victims credible- Public Offical that knowing violated Federal State and Criminal Statutory Laws and Constutional and International-- their own personal problem not the victims that chose to ruin-

Justice is blind by 90% of the time with criminal facts a US Prosecutor will see their way through

Collaborators, not much different than the mayors in France and other countries who were willing to look the other way as long as they could be left alone.

I think the truth commission idea is weak and silly. Just go for prosecution, the evidence is there. Just takes some cajones..

Leahy not Partisan? Just the other side is Partisan. Give me a break..

If Leahy had something to go after he would. Apparently his pot is dry.

It's up to the Justice Dept. to investigate and prosecute. Leahy has to get Republican support, and they won't cooperate. Not because there's nothing to investigate, but because Republicans hate Liberals that much.

I don't understand why no one goes after Bush / Cheney et al. It must be because they're afraid. What are they afraid of? That too many people would be incriminated?

they are accomplices in criminal activity and know it will be proved . They signed onto to EVERYTHING , except for a small minority , who are not in the mainstream Dem coalitions.
