An Almanac Of Sore Losers

An Almanac Of Sore Losers

According to reports from top Republicans, Norm Coleman's legal battle for his Minnesota Senate seat could continue all the way to the Supreme Court, a process that would leave the seat open for many months to come. As Eric Boehlert points out in a Media Matters item, "Traditionally, candidates who lost and cried foul had a rather short window to prove their case before the media lost patience and started labeling the candidate petulant and self-involved. Just ask Al Gore, who was called a 'sore loser' practically from the moment he withdrew his concession in the early morning hours following Election Day." Certainly, there were a whole host of political figures, hoping to see an end to the 2000 recount, who followed suit.

Can you dig up examples of politicians and media figures who thought the recount in 2000 was problematic but who favor one with Franken? Do you know of other elections, either local or statewide, where officials or members of the fourth estate pushed for a quick resolution even when the outcome seemed undecided?
