I Like ItI Don’t Like It

John Oliver was upset enough to drop his monocle when he found out the Queen had been touched. Michelle Obama met Queen Elizabeth II for the first time this week at the G-20 summit and set off a media freak-out when she put her arm around the royal.

Jon Stewart, like most Americans, thought this was just an overreaction to an arcane rule. But no, John Oliver explained that he's not worried about the Queen but Michelle.

Even the cartoon of the queen swallowing the guard looked decidedly Terry Gilliam-ish.

Actually, Her Majesty would have been briefed about Michelle Obama's hugs, if she hadn't observed herself already from news broadcasts. Therefore, it's logical to assume she put her arm around the First Lady first so as to establish protocol and prevent an incident.

The Queen has been learning diplomacy since she was Sacha and Malia's age. She doesn't live in a padded box.

Americans by nature, don't care much for Royalty. That is why we don't have a King or a Queen. We don't like bowing to anyone. We live by the philosophy that all men are created equal.

And yet, we have the Bushes, Clintons, Kennedys, McCains, Rockefellers and other political dynasties propped up by a fawning media infesting our political class.

I know the case can be made that Americans are the same with our "royalty", the Hollywood crowd, but it's ridiculous how a figurehead born into privilege is treated like a god. The queen is no different than any of us slob-humans.

The right wingers acted like the First Lady had goosed the Queen. Hilarious. Michelle softly embraced the Queen, who reciprocated. I'm sure that the Royal Family only appreciated being humanized for the world. Remember their immediate response following Princess Diana's death? That was not very well received. It's unfortunate that many white Americans can't support an intelligent, well educated President. Oh, but an intelligent and well educated black First Lady? Oh, no!!!! America, updated yourself.

Those right wingers are full of sh.it. They are ones who are always railing against European Royalty. The American First Lady is more important than the Queen in my opinion because she is the wife of most powerful man on earth.

The Repubs use any excuse to criticize and dem.onize Dems. They really don't care about British Royalty and its traditions. If Laura Bush had done this, they would have defended her. They are just showing the world how big hypocrites they are, as if the world has not seen more than enough evidence of this already.

Remember, Laura Bush spent $75,000 of the taxpayers dollars on a new set of china just her husbands term ended and they returned to Texas. A new set of china is a bit of luxury, these days. Not to mention $75000 is more than a lot of families live on each year.

Compare that to First Lady Obama's (and presumably President Obama's) decision to redecorate the white house using their own money, when funds were already alloted for this.

Do you think the rushbo ditto head cons acknowledge the FACT that the Bush family took while the Obama family continues to give? Not so much.

Except Laura Bush DIDN"T do this.

Everyone noticed the top hat, the monocle and the tea, but did anyone see the blacked-out teeth?

Even with National Health, there is still more money spent on the Royals then there are on dentition, unless the dentition are of the removable sort.

I once visited a friend who was attending college in the UK, during the Christmas break. All of her housemates had returned home for the holidays and all had left their toothbrushes at the flat. Hell, it was only for a fortnight, who needs to brush?

Did that Tony Harris character used to be one of the sidemen for Morris Day and the Time? He was great in Purple Rain. He's a good fit in what we today call "journalism", and by that I mean the slavish devotion to anything but the important stuff...leave that for the dour, jowl heavy, talking heads.
Anyhow, while the media is awash with "news" programming, it has, paradoxically, never been more vacuous...and serves quite nicely as a mechanism and motivation to not watch at all.
