Vitter Wants National Tea Party Day

Vitter

The tax day tea party movement is gaining steam, as TV celebrities and political figures try to glom onto what might be a burgeoning populist groundswell. Neil Cavuto and Sean Hannity of Fox News will join events in Sacramento and Atlanta. Newt Gingrich will be in New York. And on Friday Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) proposed to make a law honoring April 15 as National Tea Party Day.

Vitter's got a Web page that says "millions" of Americans will join protests "to register their displeasure with our government's addiction to wasteful spending, bailouts for big business, and higher taxes."

Before they register that displeasure, Vitter wants them to register as Citizen Co-Sponsors of his effort to "force the Senate to recognize this day as a formal protest by the people against these policies."

An organizer of the tax day protest outside the Treasury Department in Washington, D.C. told the Huffington Post that several Republican politicians -- it now seems Vitter might have been one of them -- had asked to speak at the event, only to be rebuffed because, as the organizer puts it, "We're not a function of the Republican party."

Newt Gingrich might be an unwelcome guest at the event in New York if anybody reminds protesters that the former congressman flip-flopped to support the bailout of the financial industry.

CNBC's Rick Santelli, the man whose barely-intelligible cri de coeur brought this whole thing about, will not be participating in any tea parties on tax day.

The Huffington Post wants to have citizen journalists at as many of these events as possible. If you think you'd be interested in attending one of the Tea Parties and reporting back to us with dispatches, photos, or video, click here to sign up. We'll contact you shortly with further instructions.

Scary!

"The events are also being embraced by a smorgasbord of far-right causes. Gun rights MILITIAS, SECESSIONISTS, and NEO-NAZI GROUPS are currently working to contribute to the organizing effort."

ThinkProgress has the link to the Nazi group promoting this event -

Maybe Vitter will invite his special friends from his special D.C. 'black book' to his party.

Or maybe he could stand next to Bachmann in announcing this event.

Regardless, It's good comedy.

David, David, David....you're so transparent that it makes me want to chuck. Can't you see that we see every gesture you make is nothing more than an attempt to divert attention from your insatiable addiction to h*ookers? You're not about making laws, passing legislation, representing the people of LA, et al. You're 110 % about getting your four-inch joint worked on by someone you have to pay....ostensibly not your wife...unless you're paying her for s*ex which is not beyond the realm of possibility. If I were your wife, I would charge you every time you lay your s*limey hand on me.

Just out of curiosity, how does he plan to celebrate national tea party day?

Tell that loser to get back to work.

I am constantly amazed at how gullible people are. These talking-head charlatans have done an amazing smoke and mirrors job to convince their followers that a tax increase that will affect the richest five-percent of the population is somehow going to destroy the middle class. How is this possible??

He just wants to use the phrase "tea bag" and not have to pay for it!

Adorned in my best English-made suit, white curl wig and platimu-rimmed monacle, I along with my esteemed colleague, Mrs. Bucket (it's boo-Kay), with pinkies extended from our finest china teacups do strongly endorse having tea with our whores in Louisiana. We join with Senator Vitter in bringing a sense of decorum to the prostitution industry.

He does know that it is a tea bag tax get together and not a tea baggin' get together? There is a difference...

Nice to see the wingnuts and their wimpy elected officials take that big leap into the abyss...hope there are sharp rocks at the bottom.
