Should Chicago win the right to host the 2016 Olympic Games, a private beach would be built for competing athletes on the South Side -- shutting down part of the city's widely used bike path on a lakefront that has historically been open to any and all users, officials said Saturday.

I'm fine with it as long as the bike path goes back to the beach after the games. It is a public property after all.

Very overblown article. The bike path would be closed, at most, for 4 weeks during the games and a few weeks prior to the games as the area was swept for security reasons. Biking down Lake Shore Drive might be permitted as an alternative according to the Trib's article on this same subject. It's not a big deal.

It wouldn't "shut down" the path. It would re-route it for a couple of weeks.

Sensationalism in something as innocuous as this?
Sheesh.
