I Like ItI Don’t Like It

During "Saturday Night Live's" Weekend Update, Madonna and Angelina Jolie sparred in a baby-off.

Madonna was just denied a second child from Malawi while Jolie has adopted kids from Cambodia, Vietnam and Ethiopia.

Madonna, played by Kristen Wiig, told Seth Meyers, "I love babies, but I especially love getting babies from crazy places."

Moments later Jolie, played by Amy Elliot, interrupts and challenges Madonna over who has babies from more exotic locales.

good idea, bad execution. Typical of SNL. These days its the ridiculous stuff that is done well that I find funny. "I'm ona boat, yo!"

Too bad SNL can't come up with original characters instead of glomming onto celebrities. I know, the celebrities deserve it but my mom taught me to not be critical and make fun of other people. IT'S JUST NOT RIGHT!

Satire of the foibles of public figures is an honorable tradition dating back to Roman times. It is very, very right and undoubtedly helps maintain democracy to take the powerful down a peg.

I can't believe that even needed to be said.

It's not right - UNLESS THEY TOTALLY DESERVE LIKE THESE TWO MADWOMEN!!

Lots of talent, but this was a terribly written show. The Jon Hamm show was the best so far this season.

This is great, the serial cult adopters getting "Palinized"on SNL. As much good as both may do abroad, it's always best to clean your own back yard before going to someone else's house to meddle there. Given that, I'd like to see both Madonna and A. Joile adopt a handful of kids from foster care right here in the U.S.

Thank you as a former foster child, I couldn't agree more.

What is wrong with seeing yourself more as a part of humanity rather then a resident of a particular area when it comes to civic engagement? So what if they want to adopt children from the most impoverished parts of the planet? If you ignored artificial border lines, humanitarianism is helping those who need the most help.

It is inspiring to see people focused on the larger community while the rest of us seek to protect 'our own'

IMHO

It's really nobody's business where people choose to adopt from. Adoption is very personal choice made by families and it is important that they do what they think is best for their family. I find comments like Deborah's very ignorant and insulting to those of us who have chosen to adopt abroad.

If it is just little black orphans these ladies want to adopt, Baltimore projects are awash with them- all home grown.

But then, it wouldn't smack so much of CHARITY, would it, unless they took a baby from "deepest, darkest Africa"

Wonder if the kids are tax deductible?

Actually, Jolie has adopted from Asia as well.

You're right. My hubby and I went to a popular adoption agency in the Chicago area. They cringe when couples come in wanting to adopt so they can "help" or "save" a child.

It's funny how Madonna is looked upon in England and how here in the states people think she's doing something noble. People over there can't stand her while in the states most don't think there is anything she does that's out of the blue.

Ok, while the skit was funny, some of the criticism seems just mean.

I'm not a big fan of either of these two women, but even if this whole adoption thing is just for publicity, there are far worse ways of doing so.

Let's see. They could go for drunken partying sans underwear, releasing sex videos on the internet, or adopting a starving child. They chose to adopt the starving child. Good choice.

Such a good choice, in fact, that I'm even willing to give the benefit of the doubt to them and say that they are both probably trying to do something good for the children involved, and that might even be the prime motivation.

Could they use the same money to help more people? I think so, but that's not really the point. They're doing something decent.

If you think that the money could be better spent, then my suggestion is that the next time you decide to spend $6 on a coffee, or $15 on either an album or a movie, stop and ask yourself that same question.

There are several organizations will be glad to use that money to help children. I might suggest the Christian Children's Fund, Save the Children, or any of the several other reputable charitable organizations the help children.
