SNL: Madonna And Angelina In Weekend Update Adoption-Off (VIDEO)

During "Saturday Night Live's" Weekend Update, Madonna and Angelina Jolie sparred in a baby-off.

Madonna was just denied a second child from Malawi while Jolie has adopted kids from Cambodia, Vietnam and Ethiopia.

Madonna, played by Kristen Wiig, told Seth Meyers, "I love babies, but I especially love getting babies from crazy places."

Moments later Jolie, played by Amy Elliot, interrupts and challenges Madonna over who has babies from more exotic locales.

As kindly as the act of adopting children from other countries may be, would it not be better to do as Oprah has? Contributing to the education of children in their own land thereby allowing them to develop and grow in their own culture sounds like an even better deed. The expense of the trip alone to pick up the child would buy many books and teacher salaries in these poor countries. Am sure that there will be counter arguments but this seems like a worthy option.

I found SNL's skit re: Angelina and Madonna's actions to adopt kids from 'CRAZY PLACES" to be quite cute. But in reality, I applaud both of these (real life) women for what they have done for the children that they have adopted and taken into their homes to love and guide.

The news reports mentioned that the grandmother of the baby that Madonna wishes to adopt in Malawi, posed an objection to the adoption. But the news further stated that the child is in an orphanage in that country, and for some reason, grandmom isn't stepping up to the plate to take the child.

So, I believe grandmom has done this child a gross injustice to stand in the way of her chance and opportunity for a better life. Because seeing Madonna's other children, they all seem happy and well adjusted. So, I wish Madonna the very best in her appeal, if she decides to go forward with it !

But the grandmother is not the one standing in the way of the adoption. The judge denied the request due to Madonna bypassing the residency requirement. The grandmother had nothing to do with it.

Tugar you are so correct. Where was everyone before Madonna wanted to adopt the little girl? And now the father has shown up because according to him "his daughter is now famous" and he now wants a relationship with her. Apparently they feel that they can milk Madonna for some money but just for the hell of it I hope she packs up her crap, cut off the money and go about her business. Apparently these people don't know about the saying not biting the hand that feeds you!!! She wanted to help the kids just like she did two years ago with the little boy and this is how they react? And to all those who have their issues with the adoption and is influencing the idiots in that country I hope they can put their money where their mouth is because they are only talking and not doing a damn thing to help!

I think the impressions of Angelina Jolie and Madonna were meant to be the centerpiece of this skit, not what they were saying, because what they were saying wasn't that funny. However, the impressions were dead-on, from Angelina's constant half-smirk to Madonna's quasi-British accent..

This was funny. You have to have a sense of humor. SNL played up the notion of these adoptions being about exotic babies not actually wanting to help. That is what comedy does- takes an absurd but perceived notion and plays on that for laughs. Well done.

I agree! If they are so concerned about poor children in these countries- why not put monies towards converting these orphanages into group living facilities for these "poor" childrens of interest? Think of the what the dollars already expended could have done for many.

What's the difference between adopting all these kids and hiring a nanny for each and every one and keeping them in an orphange? Oh-different living conditions- right, my bad.

And if indeed they're interested in making a difference in some child's life- they need look no further then the children they've created with "whatever" partner may belong to- which ever kid. And while they may "look" well adjusted- Looks aren't the best judge. Hello!

SNL thinks that by putting wigs on they can capture a celebrity's character. These people are not even funny. Rarely are they. I'm left with the impression it's done more for a paycheck then a laugh.
