Isn't he one of the Dems that expressed doubts about the Pres. during the election? He either panders to the white sheet crowd or he's one of them, if he's who I am recalling.

Bottom line, jobs in his district.

Where some of my right wing friends work for defense contractors. My friends who send out those nasty emails about how lazy people are who get public assistance, or God Forbid, gasp, unemployment insurance payments.......

It will be interesting to see how they talk about themselves once their own govenment funded salaries are gone and they have to scramble to find jobs, and collect unemployment.

If we lose our minds, we have lost our greatest defense! to Hell with these warmongers, who will send your sons to war, but not their sons and daughters. America has not had war on its soil in such a long time that we think it's a board game and the winner gets a trophy; those that feed on war should go to the front of the line to taste the bullets.

Robert Gates is a republican, Neither him, or President Obama would do anything that would diminish the ability of the USA to have the strongest force in the world, and to be able to defebd ourselves.

Meast36, from all the racist pap in your rant against immigrants and Muslims, I understand you don't like Obama and equate all people of Islamic faith with "evildoers." But let's get back to the topic at hand. Since when is wasting money on military hardware that no longer serves a purppose making us safe? Eisenhower (5-star general and Republican President) warned us about the rise of the military-industrial complex and how the big money contractors would do just about anything (like lining the pockets of politicians) to keep the cash spigot open. It's so easy (and a transparently cheap shot) to wrap their shilling for big contractors in waves of concern for "national security." But, in truth, wasting taxpayer dollars on antequated weapons systems weakens our security by drawing money away from effective programs. We can no longer afford to feed this bloated beast. We've got be smarter in the way we spend our defense dollars. If the contractors want the cash, let them develop weapons systems that can actually defend us.

Robert Gates made it quite clear there would be a battle royal in the Congress due to the fact that practically every district in the country benefits to one degree or another from the Defense budget.
Too bad. Things have to change. We can't keep funding these useless programs in the Pentagon just because people need their jobs. Pain hurts. and we all are feeling pain.

Have any ideal how many hundreds of billions are wasted on defense. Barak wants to focus good money on great results withtout the frauds that are going on with spending of our money.

Many of the religios right want to see a clensing of the world which is a scary thought but these people have there religious leaders tell them this is the way it has to be. These are the people that like lots of confrontations with other countries because they believe in the end of times.

Todays Republican party is closer to the extreme right then ever before in history and that will be the downfall of them.

They never want peace and therefore never has Americas best intrest.

Foolish spending is rabid in the defense dept. and we need to focus on smart spending that will bring us great results

What? Obama doesn't make this country safer? What a shock!!! You mean to tell me that by relaxing security at the borders, refusing to allow police to ask anyone whether or not they are here legally and forbidding immigration raids to round up illegals actually makes us LESS safe? You mean that allowing terrorists lounge chairs, cable TV, free healthcare, artificial limbs paid for on the US taxpayers dime and all the amenities of a 4 star hotel while in US custody is not condusive to gathering intelligence? The fear of hurting anyones feelings has gotten in the way of keeping us safe. Meanwhile millions are homeless in Darfur, hundreds of thousands are being killed and the country is going to continue to be in the hands of Islamic terrorists. The Arab league issued a statement yesterday actually expressing their solidarity with the janjaweed. The leaders of Syria and Iran, among others stated that "We emphasis our solidarity with Sudan and our dismissal and rejection of the decision handed down by the International Criminal Court". They actually equate opposing genocide to opposing Islam. They denounce the ICC's warrant and said this about Obama "We consider the warrant as a political insult against Muslims, what we expected from changes in the U.S. administration was that we would not witness such stances.” So we will see if Obama has the stones to stand up to these guys or keep kowtowing. So much for a religion of peace.

You know NOTHING about Islam si get your hatred and ignorance in order and speak with Muslims and perhaps you will be a little smarter meast36.

We have religious wars for over a 1000 years and it is people like you with you hate and ignorance that ignites these problems instead of reaching out and being smart.

By the way, Congressman Boren is the son of former Senator Boren of Oklahoma. So he's just part of a political dynasty, like Bush was. Pay your dues, take your ride. Money talks.

He's the equivalent of GW to GHW - at least Boren and Bush senior paid their own dues (not disputing they had advantages also, but still).

Dan Boren is a joke.

When you do nasty things for money, you are a prostitute. Congressman Boren is defending the bloated defense industry's wasteful programs because they provide jobs in his state (nasty) - and because the defense industry donates to his campaign (payoff). Congressman Boren is a prostitute.

I believe that there is a distinction made in this profession (as there is in all professions) based on the earnings.

Brother Boren is a courtesan not a prostitute please.

Decent folk like you should help preserve our distinctions of class.

Otherwise who knows what might happen to our civilization.

Oh, the shock and surprise that a Demowon't would say such a thing! The Dems have been doing this kind of thing for at least 30 years now as they too learned to cater to the lobbyists. Except for some minor issues, there is hardly a hair's widths of difference between the two parties in either real platform or intellectual acumen. Had the Dems been the opposition party they claimed to be this country would not be in the mess it is. Quit donating to them and start finding a supporting third party candidates. As long as you continue to buy the rhetoric that a third party candidate can't win then they won't. We need more Bernie Sanders and fewer Borens!

Security is not the real issue here, since the Pentagon has said the cuts are for defense items the Pentagon does not need. Clearly then this is self-posturing for re-election without concern for America or American taxpayers.

It will be interesting to watch all these Congressmen who are so worried about spending all of a sudden be against recommended spending cuts from the Pentagon which the Pentagon calls wasteful.

We will clearly see a lot of hypocrisy and self before Country as this debate moves forward.
