Glenn Beck Fema

On his show Monday, Glenn Beck enlisted the help of Popular Mechanics to debunk an internet rumor that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) operates concentration camps in the United States.

Beck, known for his apocalyptic views, had come under fire for mentioning FEMA camps, though he claims to have always doubted their existence and promised to either show viewers the camps or prove that they didn't exist.

Monday, he appears to have done the latter.

Beck hosted Popular Mechanics editor-in-chief James Meigs, who reported that, based on his magazine's independent investigation, videos on the internet said to have been of FEMA concentration camps actually included footage of an Amtrak repair facility in Beach Grove, Indiana. The video reportedly comes from a woman tied to Timothy McVeigh's militia group.

"There is enough out there," Beck said. "We don't need to make stuff up."

Sorry, Glen-research begs to differ. It is amazing how much one can find out when one actually asks the questions, does the research and analyzes the data.

Is it just me, or are these right-wing blow holes becoming more and more ludicrous?

When will America have the gaul to refer to McVeigh as a terrorist and his "group" as a terrorist group and not a militia.

I agree with the sentiment, but "gall" is the word you wanted.

"Gaul" refers to one of the Celtic groups who occupied southern and central France, Belgium, Switzerland and northern Italy at the start of the Roman Empire. (And to be sure, they had a lot of gall to stand up to Caesar.)

I stopped watching Beck a long time ago. He needed medical help at that time and it seems he still needs it. One wonders how such a dilettant can have a spot on TV. Unprofessional, irrespinsible, shameful.

Well it's good that Beck is now using Scientifically authoritative primary literature like...."Popular Mechanics" to debunk stories. I used to love "Popular Mechanics" and the articles about how the 1970's would bring us personal jet cars and we'd live in cities like George and Judy Jetson. They were in touch with the near-term future, lemme tell ya. And America, particularly Appalalachia southward, regards "Popular Mechanics" with awe. After all, that's where one could obtain a cardboard submarine, sea monkeys (which disproved evolution from monkeys...just look at them!) , or X-Ray Specs (instant porn)!

So that's why Beck calls on a top Grade A Scientist like James Miegs onto his show...oh wait...Miegs is a former editor of Entertainment Weekly...and doesn't even have a Science or even a Mechanical Engineering Degree. Next up Beck debunks Global Warming...by proving that it's actually gotten colder in the summer because of air conditioning.

Beck is a social experiment. He exists to test whether freedom of speech in a pluralistic society is really possible.

We'll see.

Hopefully all this cr azy stuff will die down once the Baracknaphobia also mellows.

You're kidding--right?

You call the intentional misleading of an entire country for political traction, "freedom of speech"? Are people free to lie on public airwaves to intentionally cause panic, potentially incite riots, and brain wash the country? Isn't that was communist countries do when they speak of the "evils" of Democracy?

I'm all for freedom of speech--but when you tart it up under the guise that people like Beck or Michelle Bachmann can openly instigate lies about our government ("re-education camps" "concentration camps" etc.), that's ridiculous.

All Beck does is make up stuff. Usualy inflamatory with the truth being optional.

Beck has that job for a purpose. Fox News and News Corp have an agenda. When he lies or hides the truth it is to fulfill that agenda. When he tells the truth it is because it fits that agenda.

I just wonder how they get away with it.. Oh, yeah, rich white guys who own the media can do anything they want. And there is nothing you can do about it.

That's what you scream and yell when someone:

1. Says something negative about Obama
2. Beck or anyone else says something you don't like
3. Any more?!?!?!

So you guys call him crazy for mentioning the FEMA camps, then when he reasonably concludes that they don't exist, you still call him crazy? WTF?

Well, that would be because the man is in fact crazy. All you have to do is watch his show to see that.

You just answered your own question. What is up with this guy?
Was it reasonable to say they existed in the first place? Do we think maybe someone in the Fox hierarchy told him to back peddle?

The Pittsburgh Cop Killer was known to have passed around the vid of Beck saying FEMA Camps existed - so Beck is desperately covering his ass should the families of the slain officers decide to potentially sue him. Remember this is the same Glen Beck who has blamed violent video games for real life violence. He can't have it both ways - either his words (and video games) have consequences, or they don't. I bet I know what side he's argue now...

I'm pretty sure Beck has plenty of crazy still stored up. After all, we've got the Facism special scheduled for Friday.

Beck is trying the oldest trick in the books...first he makes outrageous claims...and then he tries to make it sound like he is the voice of sanity by debunking some other outrageous claims (which he could have, in fact, done years ago...as his own expert points out). So he allows the emotional temperature to rise, by even giving such claims credit as being reasonable...and then he becomes the "arbiter of TRUTH).

The tactic is that then everything he states as TRUTH will be accepted as such.

And notice how he is leading up to the revelation of a real "concentration camp"! Yeah. one that I'm sure no one else except the Glenn Beck program knew about.

FYI all:

This is old news and yes, the camps exist. KBR got the contract to build them in January 2006, under the Bush Administration. See: http://www.kbr.com/news/2006/govnews_060124.aspx
