On his show Monday, Glenn Beck enlisted the help of Popular Mechanics to debunk an internet rumor that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) operates concentration camps in the United States.

Beck, known for his apocalyptic views, had come under fire for mentioning FEMA camps, though he claims to have always doubted their existence and promised to either show viewers the camps or prove that they didn't exist.

Monday, he appears to have done the latter.

Beck hosted Popular Mechanics editor-in-chief James Meigs, who reported that, based on his magazine's independent investigation, videos on the internet said to have been of FEMA concentration camps actually included footage of an Amtrak repair facility in Beach Grove, Indiana. The video reportedly comes from a woman tied to Timothy McVeigh's militia group.

"There is enough out there," Beck said. "We don't need to make stuff up."

Glenn Beck is my new favorite cable news program. It is beyond belief. First, this clown makes Hannity look like a Rhodes scholar. And he makes astounding statements--talking about the GITMO prisoners, spec the anti-Chinese group, who can't find a home, he very casually opined: "Well this does suggest that just shooting these people in the field would have been a good idea"--shooting prisoners. Just like that. I am telling you, it's like a combination of a side show and a really sad junior high debater try-out.

You have got to watch it, haven't laughed so much in a long time.

The first time I watched it, I really thought it was satire like the Colbert Report.

LOL..that video shows an entrance to a subway station in NYC, or what looks like. Is that all it takes nowadays to cause a frenzy?

Two weeks ago, this clown was not only talking about the guns being taken away, but I kid you not, he was saying that he talked to a guy supposedly high up in the government that told him that ammunition would soon be in short supply. He then said he should have the president of Smith and Wesson on (a good friend of his I take it) to answer questions about the forthcoming bullet shortage. He said there was a mandate by the GUVMENT to have bullets made scarce. Dude, first of all, that is a terrific idea that gets better by the day and the maniacal fans of this moonbat are soon going to turn this fantasy of the government bullet prohibition into a necessity just to keep the gunnuts from wiping out more innocent people just going to work. Glenn Beck cannot shake responsibility for the mania he creates. He tries and when someone does something crazy he trivializes his role in the act.

Maybe those were actually the dreaded "re-education camps" Michelle Bachmann is so afraid of. Wonder if Bachmann can hire that militia lady to make vidoes to prove her conspiracy theories. Or she's probably totally booked by all her assignments for Hannity.

It is clear that the Republicans and FIX media types still feel the only way they can try to win is to find someone or something for their constituents to hate and in so doing to try to induce fear, violence preparation and ultimately violence.

Their rhetoric does seem to be getting louder and louder and more and more dangerous though. Moreover, the FIX media (Beck, Riley, Hannity) and Rush Limbaugh show have become real agents of hate and fear mongering. They are fast beginning to be border-line terroritsts. They need to be monitored closely like all hate groups such as the Nazi s, KKK and Muslim Jihad movements. They are all of the same ilk.

It is not our government we need to be afraid of but these terror rousing groups. Remember the 16th St Church, Birmingham, Alabama Church bombing and the Oklahoma City Federal Building bombing (ref. Timothy McVeigh et al with the latter) brought to us by angry, poor white, American grown terroritsts? Remember the three Pittsburg police officers ambushed and murdered this week by someone who bought the Republican mantra that the government was coming after his guns. Enough said.

Thus, Beck's sudden disclaimer attempt is even scarier . With this he tries to position himself as credible and a non-believer in this fear mongering of which he is really an integral part. We must not be fooled. But then again, tomorrow he will show us once again who he really is.

I don't even get the FEMA camp conspiracy theory.

Wouldn't any of the superdome survivors have been happy to have a secure location like this? Too bad it didn't really exist, because it would have been a huge improvement over how the Bush administration wiped out the poor and vulnerable of New Orleans.

This line of reasoning came from the X Files. I guess they don't realize that was a TV show too and had nothing to do with reality.

Where did this guy even come from? I never heard of him until a month or two ago, and now he's leading the pack of dangerous hysterics on Fox. He makes Hannity seem cool and rational.

I think this is a very calculated move by Glenn Beck.

Because frankly, I doubt he believes 90% of the crackpot conspiracy theories he cooks up. He just knows his audience, and knows that fear and paranoia is the best way to control them.

But now, by debunking this ONE story, he can claim to be "fair and balanced." Whenever anyone acuses him of simply extrapolating insane theories from zero evidence and packaging it as a genuine warning to his fellow citizens, he can just reference the ONE TIME he actually researched one of his conspiracy theories and found it to be false, and act as the rest of his stories are actually vetted as well.

Of course, what's ridiculous is that he vetted this at all, felt that it was such a credible claim that it actually waranted investigation.

I can just see his next foray into investigative journalism:

"Moon made of cream cheese- fact or fiction? Glenn Beck is here to bring you the truth."
