On his show Monday, Glenn Beck enlisted the help of Popular Mechanics to debunk an internet rumor that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) operates concentration camps in the United States.

Beck, known for his apocalyptic views, had come under fire for mentioning FEMA camps, though he claims to have always doubted their existence and promised to either show viewers the camps or prove that they didn't exist.

Monday, he appears to have done the latter.

Beck hosted Popular Mechanics editor-in-chief James Meigs, who reported that, based on his magazine's independent investigation, videos on the internet said to have been of FEMA concentration camps actually included footage of an Amtrak repair facility in Beach Grove, Indiana. The video reportedly comes from a woman tied to Timothy McVeigh's militia group.

"There is enough out there," Beck said. "We don't need to make stuff up."

I'm not sure why we need to create and disseminate rumours of American Concentration Camps when there already exists American Prisons which aren't much different.

re: Popular Mechanics...

Senior researcher on the piece [911 'debunking'] Benjamin Chertoff is the cousin of Michael Chertoff, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.

This means that Benjamin Chertoff was hired to write an article that would receive nationwide attention, about the veracity of the government's explanation of an event that led directly to the creation of Homeland Security, a body that his own cousin now heads.

SELF-EXTINCTION

Today's GOP is a genetically and or psychologically deviant mélange of morally and ethically compromised mutants, miscreants and kamikaze loyalists who are crashing and burning all things Republican. They are the figurative buzzards and hyenas fighting over the last scraps of a carcass riddled with maggots and festering clumps of putrefied viscera. They are the opportunistic parasites whose very existence is and always has been dependent on sucking blood from the engorged bellies of alpha predators. The prevalence of fear, paranoia and irrational hatred in today's GOP represents the antemortem gasps of a doomed species struggling to survive in evaporating pools of their own toxic waste as they mercilessly slice and dice one another in futile attempts to be a big fish in an increasingly smaller and smaller pond.

continuing from the Peter Dale Scot article:

Plans for detention facilities or camps have a long history, going back to fears in the 1970s of a national uprising by black militants. As Alonzo Chardy reported in the Miami Herald on July 5, 1987, an executive order for continuity of government (COG) had been drafted in 1982 by FEMA head Louis Giuffrida. The order called for "suspension of the Constitution" and "declaration of martial law." The martial law portions of the plan were outlined in a memo by Giuffrida's deputy, John Brinkerhoff.

In 1985, President Reagan signed National Security Decision Directive 188, one of a series of directives that authorized continued planning for COG by a private parallel government.

Two books, James Mann's "Rise of the Vulcans" and James Bamford's "A Pretext for War," have revealed that in the 1980s this parallel structure, operating outside normal government channels, included the then-head of G. D. Searle and Co., Donald Rumsfeld, and then-Congressman from Wyoming Dick Cheney.

After 9/11, new martial law plans began to surface similar to those of FEMA in the 1980s. In January 2002 the Pentagon submitted a proposal for deploying troops on American streets. One month later John Brinkerhoff, the author of the 1982 FEMA memo, published an article arguing for the legality of using U.S. troops for purposes of domestic security.

Which are actually movie lots anyway, since everyone knows the moon landings were faked. After all, those "pictures" from the moon show it as round, which is a zionist conspiracy to discredit the New Testament. Or something. Anyway, Earth's flat. No gay marriage!

from an article by Peter Dale Scot:

"A Halliburton subsidiary has just received a $385 million contract from the Department of Homeland Security to provide "temporary detention and processing capabilities. For those who follow covert government operations abroad and at home, the contract evoked ominous memories of Oliver North's controversial Rex-84 "readiness exercise" in 1984. This called for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to round up and detain 400,000 imaginary "refugees," in the context of "uncontrolled population movements" over the Mexican border into the United States. North's activities raised civil liberties concerns in both Congress and the Justice Department. The concerns persist.

"Almost certainly this is preparation for a roundup after the next 9/11 for Mid-Easterners, Muslims and possibly dissenters," says Daniel Ellsberg, a former military analyst who in 1971 released the Pentagon Papers, the U.S. military's account of its activities in Vietnam. "They've already done this on a smaller scale, with the 'special registration' detentions of immigrant men from Muslim countries, and with Guantanamo."

Peter Dale Scott is _extremely_ credible. A Canadian diplomat and Berkeley professor. He does that thing that Ne0c0ns find so strange - he tells the truth.

Why does Popular Mechanics keep showing up to "debunk" various theories? What interest would a magazine like that have in whether or not FEMA is building camps for American citizens?

Ha. I'm from Beech Grove, Indiana. Those are, of course, simply train yards, and were once the epicenter of the little town. As a child, I went on multiple tours of the facility as part of elementary school field trips! They're innocuous, if a bit reminiscent of something built in the Eastern Bloc.

What's his rationale for why people afraid President Obama is "coming to get their guns" are killing the police and families? When is he going to do a show about that? When people are already on the edge all it takes is for another nut to push them over it.

You see, the Pittsburgh Cop Killer was passing around the youtube vid where Beck was professing that FEMA Camps did exist. So Beck is worried that the MSM might wake up and report that fact, so he's backtracking like crazy on the story. Too bad Beck's backtracking can't bring back the three police officers back to life though.

I remember when the good people at Anheiser Busch came out with "Born On Dating" and related ad campaign. they created a fake market and then were there to fill it with "fresh beer"!

This strikes me as very much the same. Most people didn't believe FEMA camps existed that could be described as "Concentration Camps", so Beck lends himself authenticity by disproving a rumor no one really took to be true anyway.

He's manufacturing credibility.

At first, I confess, I was amused by the suffering of the repugs. Now, I am concerned. This reminds me of the Twilight Zone episode where the aliens flick lights on and off, etc. in different houses in a neighborhood until they all turn on each other, acuse each other of being aliens, and (if I recall correctly) attack each other. In the end, the aliens gloat about how easy it was to sit back and let the earlings destroy each other.
