WASHINGTON — The father of Bristol Palin's baby boy says he's been treated like an outcast since the end of Gov. Sarah Palin's run for vice president.

Appearing in an interview broadcast Wednesday on CBS's "The Early Show," Levi Johnston said he felt a need to "get my side of the story out there."

Watch CBS Videos Online

A worsening feud has developed between the 19-year-old Johnston and the governor's family in the wake of Johnston's complaints about not being able see his young son Tripp, often enough. Now there is a dispute about whether Johnston had actually lived with the Palins. Palin denies that he did; Johnston's family says the Palins are lying.

Johnston says that the biggest misconception about him is that his family is "probably that my family's white trash." He called the Palins "snobby."

Bristol Palin is Sarah Palin's daughter, and at one point she had agree to marry Johnston, but that is now off. Johnston said he was heartbroken by the split.

Johnston said he "wouldn't call any baby a mistake. I love him more than anything. I wouldn't trade him for the world." Tripp was born Dec. 27.

Best question:

"Either you're lying, or Sarah Palin is lying. Which is it?"

During the presidential campaign, Sarah Palin was projected by the rightwing moral preachers as the epitome of Christian values. How does separating the father from his son measure up to these values?

No one says Levi Johnston is an angel nor should anyone dare to deny him the right to be with his baby son?

As a Christian, I was so baffled by the "morally right" Christian Republicans trumpeting Sarah Palin as a model for family values. On the contrary, Sarah Palin was a disastrous failure as a responsible parent by allowing her daughter to have sex before marriage and get pregnant out of wedlock. This is in total contrast to the moral teachings of Christianity.

The truth of the matter was that the Hockey Mom shamelessly exploited her children to advance her campaign, parading her children before the American voting public.

Carrying and cradling in her arms her down syndrome son nothing more than a publicity stunt.

Now her true color has started to reveal. Levi's episode is only the first salvo to this distasteful saga.

Get off the talk show circuit kid and finish high school already, fer Christ sakes, you are not going to be able to milk this forever. You'd better find more steady "employment".

You are also here, eating it up, kid. (Touchy about the "high school diploma" thing, are you?) In case you haven't noticed, Levi Johnston is one of the imbeciles on the right.

I think the young guy should get a paternity test and go to court for parental rights - or the powers to be or rather the Palins will prevail -

All things considered who has the biggest reason to lie? Sarah Palin or Levi Johnston?

Is it 50 / 50? or some other split of 100 points?

Levi Johnston. Look how he's transitioned this thing into a career already. The dude's doing another interview every day.

Like her or hate her, Bristol Palin clearly just wants to be left alone with the kid. Now Sarah Palin, I'm with you on. She's a moronic, camera-hogging, right-wing nut. But Bristol? I don't see the proof.

And frankly, if Levi gets in front of one more camera and slams his child's mother one more time while the left cheers him on, I'm gonna be physically ill. There is an actual BABY involved in all this after all. Perhaps his father should man up and start thinking of his child's interest, rather than his own selfish motives, for once.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:48 PM on 04/10/2009

I do believe the selfish motives lie with Palin and the McCain campaign, before the baby was ever born. Levi has a right to defend himself and his family. He wants to be a father to his son. I would call that thinking of his son's interest.

No, no, no. Don't you see that this is less about Bristol vs. Levi, and all about Guv. vs. Levi. It's almost as though Bristol (who is an adult, now) has got nothing to do with it. She's allowed her publicity-craving, junior-high-school-drama-queen-acting mum do all of her dirty work for her.

Funny how Faux news was calling Michelle Obama Barack's
"Baby Mama"

As usual the opposite of what they say is true.

Sounds to me like that boy needs himself a good lawyer so he can be with his kid. I mean, family values and all don't you think his son needs a dad?

Palin is denying that Levi ever lived there; having said that, I wouldn't believe a thing this woman says! Not now, not ever. There's a reason this guy is the dad of the baby.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:13 PM on 04/10/2009

She'd deny he ever existed if she could get away with it.

These people just never cease to amaze. Absolutely no values, no ethics, no morals. Just drill baby.

I find it interesting no one's actually worried about the KID.

Nope, saving all of our concern for Levi who at, what 19, after a whirlwind media tour and knocking Bristol up, clearly had NO idea what he was doing.

I'm sure the kid will really appreciate, when he grows up, getting to watch tape of his dad SLAMMING his mother on camera. That should be great for him.

God forbid we criticize Levi for leaving a record of embarassing his mother for his son. It's Levi, not the baby, we're clearly worried about.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:45 PM on 04/10/2009

I'm not seeing where Levi is slamming Bristol. What I hear is that he isn't able to have private time with his son, that he feels dissed by the Palins, and that his heart is broken. In other interviews, he's said that he hopes he and Bristol can work it out. I feel for this poor kid. He was used during the campaign, no question about that. I hope he gets the time to be the father that he wants to be.

Why is everyone so up in arms about this? The election is over, and these kids need to get back to their young lives. I feel badly for both of them, and blame the McCain/Palin campaign for making the mistake of thrusting them into a very harsh spotlight.
This guy has every right to tell his side of the story, although he would be better served by just staying home and growing up out of the public eye.
As for Palin's response to Levi talking, simply horrific, low class, overblown nonsense.
But let's just leave Bristol and Levi alone already!

Remember -- we would all be leaving these kids alone, if Palin had only said "NO" when John McCain called her . Palin knew bloody well what her daughter was in for -- and didn't care. Her own ambition -- not her family -- was her priority.

It is not the media's fault -- not our fault -- but Sarah Palin's fault, and her's alone -- that these kids are in the national spot lite. And it was Sarah Palin who forced Levi and Bristol to act like love doves for the cameras --

Those who object to the light being cast on Levi, should remember who's shadow he's trying desperately now to crawl away from.

umm. no. just cos palin has kids, she can't run for office? i hate the lady. but come on--are you saying that since obama ran and got elected, his children are 'open' for fair game? I thought not. pure misogyny.

It's kind of hard to tell the actual chain of events. Did Palin give him the cold shoulder before or after he and Bristol broke up? She's likely peeved at both of them for that - not necessarily from a puritanical point of view, but from a sensible one. Like, "Hey! Baby here? Needs parents? Remember that part?"

Could Palin's reluctance to allow him to see the boy outside of their home be a security concern? Levi is a regular person living a regular life until now. The idea that his son wouldn't be safe with him is strange - but there are loonies everywhere.

This really should be an issue between Levi and Bristol. Both moms should stay out of it. If Levi was smart, the media would be out of it too. I'd rather be a hard-working electrician than a media curiosity.

I appreciate what you're saying. But, neither Palin nor her spokespeople are keeping their heads down or their mouths quiet. They are doing a perfect job of ruining her political hopes all on their own. They don't need us to do that, and I don't think she's deceiving anyone - not anyone that matters anyway.

I'm not a Palin supporter by any means. This was just my common sense reaction to the story. I also don't think that the things that are happening to the Palin and Johnston families is much different from any other family in similar circumstances (sans the media microscope).

It seems to me like Sarah Palin was probably directly responsible for the failing of her daughter's and Levi's relationship. She pushed herself into the situation too much. Never a good thing. Did you guys catch Bristol's interview with Von Susteren? She barely got two words out before Sarah came barging in on the interview interjecting her thoughts when Bristol was stating that teaching abstinence alone does not work. It was quite telling...not to mention hilarious. Sarah's clearly stifling her daughter. If she doesn't back off its going to be an even worse disaster. All she's managed to do so far is maker herself (Sarah) and her beliefs look bad. Good luck with that presidency thing Sarah. *snicker*

No doubt. Breaking Palin out as a viable candidate was the biggest facade we've ever seen. That's a dysfunctional family at best. The father is most certainly involved with the AIP. Sarah basically rode on the coatails of other politicians then killed them off like a Black Widow.. Her oldest son was shipped off to the service or go to jail on drug charges. And while both parents were busy Bristol and Levi had a good old time. A real model American family here all right.

Since when is it OK to knock up any teenage girl? Under ANY circumstance?

Levi is only 5.5 months older than Bristol. Teenage boys tend to knock up teenage girls.

Man, I feel bad for this kid, but the interviewer is really leading with questions, "Is Sarah Palin lying?" "Did they feel snobby to you?" This entire situation -- the press included -- is effed up. She lost, she has no chance of being prez, so let's leave these people alone.

I hope she has no chance of becoming Pres. However, "End of Days" Christians and Rush's ditto-heads think otherwise. Since she has no intention of leaving us alone, it's best that people become aware of how nasty she is.

true...i understand why they just can't behave liek they have some sense...the baby should be able to spend some alone time with the father and his family...I mean if you break up with the dude and don't intend to marry and start a family what do you expect his family to do? They are just as much family as the Palins are to this baby...the baby has aunts and and grandparents on his daddy side...why should they be excluded from the same benefit of time spent with the young one...LEVI...go to court and file for your right to have a schedule set up in and in place as soon as the boy starts eating solid foods and drinking from a sippy cup...seriously!!! And in the meantime....be over there everyday to visit Tripp and have your family do the same. Good Luck!!!
