WHY NO ONE UNDERSTANDS PAKISTAN.
Husain Haqqani wrote a political history, PAKISTAN--BETWEEN MOSQUE AND MILITARY, that details the chaotic control that the military has had over the government since it's founding half a century ago. The military has perverted it's role and continuously undermined the possibility that any elected presidents were ever able to enact pragmatic policies and developed experience to make Pakistan a democratic country. This it has done by stirring up Islamic extremists to continue the controversy over the Kashmir area and also in Afghanistan. A sympathetic view is that there are not soon likely to be any more coups to overthrow the president and also admitting that the US and Indian governments have not had completely rational relations with Pakistan. The use of US Predator-launched missiles against terrorists has produced useful results in eliminating substantial numbers of terrorists but has compromised Pakistan by making it have to deny giving permission to enraged civilians. Getting India involved in Afghanistan reconstruction also gives Pakistan paranoia about being surrounded by them and the US. It is probably very wise to believe that this situation should not be allowed to get any hotter.

I don’t agree with the collapse in six months theory as Pakistan has been subjected to these kind of warning many times before in last many decades. There has never been more perilous time when Soviets were knocking at Pakistan’s door and doomsayer’s predicted an imminent collapse.
But one thing is for sure and that is the fact that things will get a lot worse from here onwards before they start to get better.

Well, Talibans are not Soviets. That is the key here. Soviets would have never found support with local Pakistan population. Taliban will find support. Soviet just occupied Afghanistan. But Taliban has people from the same region (some are foreigners though), so there is no concept of occupation. Good luck.

We have poured billions into Pakistan, and have damn little to show for it. I think we need to cut
them off and see if their hearts and minds still think they can screw with us. I think we should
continue with our drone attacks, but need to be very careful in regards our targets. I would also
advocate our being supportive of India in the Mumbai attacks, which might well have taken place
with ISI support.

pakistan needs to be carved up so they are too busy killing each other instead of bothering democracies.

If the government of Pakistan is unaware of predator strikes it is incompetent to lead their country and is not defending their territorial integrity or their people. If the government knows about the strikes yet says nothing and claims ignorance and outrage-it does not deserve the support of its people. To be an ally of the US could not be more difficult. Any politician that we support is opposed by the population. Every time we lie about our mistakes we make our allies(governments) look ridiculous and dishonest. The billions we spend go to corrupt, elites that store them in Swiss banks. We can be sure that none of it ever goes to the poor people of Pakistan. We demand that they control their borders. With all of our resources we cannot control our own borders. I guess that a depression in the Western world is the only hope for relief from the poor, suffering humanity of our planet-so tired of the war and suffering at the hands of 'civilized' nations.

Maybe they would be better off with joint operations with Indian military forces.

After seeing how they botched the Mumbai terror!st att@cks, i don't think anyone would want to do joint operations with India security forces......

They got them good in the end. The Pakist@n military couldn't catch the Lawhore attackers who escaped on foot after they shot up a town square. In Pakist@n, the police abandoned their barracks on being attacked by terrorists.
