Drug addicts are already in prison; so, how does incarceration solve anything? Who did he hurt beside himself and his parents? How is he a threat to society? Yet, a creep like Bernie Madoff still is free.

It is time to stop putting addicts in prison.

Jail should be reserved for the malicious, not the foolish.

America seems to have that backwards.

Agree absolutely. We need to be more inventive with 'punishments' and less vengeful for stupidity. People who hurt people should be in jail - people who hurt themselves should be in hospital.

Well said.

The problem with heroin is that users are only one overdose from the graveyard.

I do not understand why anybody would willfully ingest something that can have fatal consequences - at least the first time.

Perhaps a nice place in the country, with plenty of healthy outlets and nontoxic herbs is what he needs.

At this point, after several charges involving drug use, what is the point in jail time? The guy needs counselling and rehab.

It's his body. It doesn't belong to anyone else and certainly not the courts. If he wants to take heroin, what the hell business is it of ours?

There are people walking around homeless with schizophrenia who refuse to take their medicine. We don't force them to take drugs because it's their body and they can do what they want with it. So why should we be concerned with what this kid does or does not like imbibing?

In a sane world where adults make the rules, this wouldn't even be a crime. Different strokes for different folks - and "Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Happiness." If heroin makes him happy, so what?

This young man has never been told NO before.... He is a disfunctional person like his drugged out parents. Neither of his parents has set a good example for this young man to go by. He has been exposed to drung all of his life because his parents are drun abusers., He needs to get a dose of real life JAIL.....

This is truly a tragedy...I'm speechless when I read this article. Can anything good or decent come from this situation either way?

He brought heroin onto a jail's parking lot? While on probation, no less?

This kid deserves to be locked up...for stupidity!

Of Ryan O'Neal's 4 children only one seems to not have the drug monkey on his back
The one child that appeared unscathed was Patrick O'Neal who was the only child of Ryan's marriage to Leigh Taylor Young...he's a sportscaster for FoxSports... interesting.

Sad for this young man BUT you do the crime..you do the time. He's been in and out of rehab too many times maybe he needs some tough love...although I read that drugs are readily avaiable in our jails and prisons.
