NEW YORK — Experience the Passion of Christ _ in 140-character bursts.

In a marriage of Christian tradition and digital technology, Wall Street's Trinity Church is using the micro-blogging service Twitter to perform the story of Jesus Christ.

The main characters will tweet the Passion play for three hours beginning at noon on Good Friday. The feed also can be delivered to mobile devices or e-mail addresses.

The lower Manhattan Episcopal parish also is offering a Web version of the Stations of the Cross.

The church was founded by a small group of Anglicans in 1697.

Jesus said over and over "I am God, I love you, I am here to rescue you, I'm telling the Truth, listen to me, it's going to be OK, trust me." Guess what? He is saying the same things right now. Few have ears.

We have ears. We also have brains. And I don't need rescuing.

AS an Episcopalian I am pleased that at least one church is incorporating twechnology in a way that sends the biblical message rather than providing grand music productions to draw crowds of easily persuadeable people who go for the show and feel good feelings and don't use their intelligence much inthe proces of worship. At least Episcopalians expect you to be able to read, think, adapt to different ways of reading the Scripture. Tradition laded existential worship. Sounds great...and saves sitting in a cold church on a hard pew on Good Friday Tenebrae for an hour like I did today, even though that was not much of a sacrifice.

Good for them. The message of Christ's sacrifice is timeless and not limited by technology.

Saaayyyy - has anyone looked into whether his question to that guy in the sky was acknowledged or even answered, or was it just a rhetorical wail from a frail......

"Father, why have you foresaken me?"

Jesus was quoting Psalm 22.

Rhetorical, I expect. Christians believe that because Christ had taken on our sins, God did forsake him at that instant.

But the good news is that Christ triumphed over sin and the grave. He restores our broken relationship with God for all time - and we receive this as a gift.
