Virgin Mobile USA has joined the ranks of companies angling for business in the deepening recession, as it launches a new promotion that promises to cover cellphone plans for laid-off customers.
The wireless company said Thursday that it would waive fees for three months for any of its prepaid, no-contract plans if a customer loses his job, as long as he has been a customer for at least two months. Virgin also cut the price on its unlimited prepaid calling plan to $49.99 from $79.99, and introduced new text-messaging-only plans that charge separately for voice calls.
