Beck Sanchez

Earlier this week, CNN's Rick Sanchez accused Fox News -- namely Glenn Beck -- of creating an environment of fear and distrust that has led to a surge in gun violence, in particular tying last week's Pittsburgh shooting to "Fox News and right wing radio."

Watch that clip and read Jason Linkins' take on it here.

On Beck's radio show Thursday, Beck and staff lashed out against Sanchez, calling Sanchez "the one guy who shouldn't accuse other people of being responsible for murder" over his 1990 drunk driving incident, in which Sanchez struck a pedestrian who would be paralyzed and later die from injuries sustained in the accident.

"Maybe if you're one of the very few people in our society that has actually been responsible for killing someone," Beck's producer Stu Burguiere ranted, "maybe you should be the one guy who shouldn't accuse other people of being responsible for murders."

Beck attempted to slow Stu down but he continued:

"Maybe you should be the one human being on earth who should not be attacking another personality for killing people, because of the fact that before you worked at CNN, you worked in Miami, and you ran over a person, and that person died. Maybe YOU should consider that before speaking on every occasion. Every time you let words out of your mouth, you should make sure you remember that day."

"Who hasn't gotten drunk, got into a car, and ran over someone?" Beck asked. "That happens all the time!"

Listen:

Sanchez was charged with and pleaded no contest to the DUI in 1991.

The age old proverbs are still in effect even in this day in age.

In this kind of environment, with Fox fanning the flames of bigotry and hatred nightly, let us hope that the Secret Service is on their toes.

In the quote above Beck's producer called him a "personality."

This is an interesting slip of the tongue. Beck, who this producer should know as an actual human being, is instead described abstractly, as if he were some kind of product.

Actually, Beck IS a product. Designed for consumers, for ratings, for fakery.

Glen beck makes sure to mention how he is a RECOVERING ALCOHOLIC all the time. He says he was a bad person, on the dark side of things etc..I'm sure we can dig up some of those horrible things he did in his past. Let's get on that shall we?

I like Rick Sanchez and didn't know about this incident. His accident does not make his comments on Beck's intentional actions that incited harm any less relevant. I hope Sanchez doesn't continue to back down because of this. An accident is on a little different level than inciting riots and killings.

Beck does all the times and he encourages violence. The other day he was pouring gas on another person demonstration his insanity. I say yes he has encouraged the murder and still does. Period.

These Fox News people are completely illogical and irresponsible. Sanchez's drunk driving incident is totally unrelated to Beck being not responsible (in other Fox Anchor's heads) for evil-spreading ranting. Beck should own up to his mistakes and stop his fear mongering.

Can't they be a conservative news station without scaring and angering conservative people out of their wits?

Beck responded to Sanchez' criticism with an ad hominem attack. Rick Sanchez past behavior has nothing to do with whether or not his criticism is correct. In this case, I agree with Sanchez. From news report, the Pittsburgh killer was motivated by right-wing rhetoric, including the kind regularly featured on Beck's program.

Of course, point to a completely unrelated mistake made almost twenty years ago by someone instead of addressing the issue at hand. Point fingers, "I'm rubber, your glue", blah blah blah. Typical arguing instead of addressing and resolving. Way to go Glen.

A single tragic DUI accident doesn't equate to you broadcasting pot-stirring lies to the millions of crazies that watch you every night.

In all fairness Sanchez tries very hard to be fair. He respects law and is the closes thing to fair and balance. Unlike Beck. Yet Beck is the one with armed guards in front of his home.

How does this make Beck less of a sideshow freak in the FOX circus?
