SeekingArrangement.com: NY Times Profiles Controversial "Sugar Daddy" Dating Website

Sugar Daddy Site

New York Times:

AT FIRST GLANCE, the Web site SeekingArrangement.com seems like any other dating site. Most of the men are looking for fit, sexy women, and most of the women want nice guys who can make them smile and laugh. But if eHarmony or Match.com is a chatty social mixer, Seeking Arrangement is a down-and-dirty marketplace where older moneyed men and cute young women engage in brutally frank transactions. They're not searching for longtime soul mates; they want no-strings-attached "arrangements" that trade in society's most valued currencies: wealth, youth and beauty. In the cheesy lexicon of the site, they are "sugar daddies" and "sugar babies."

I am not sure who's responsible or when it all started, but it seems that a woman who thinks that her body is her best asset and a man who thinks that his Maserati is what defines him, are perfect match.
Why are we complaining.

So the site includes a list of "services" and "prices", right?? Perhaps they should think about adding a menu of some sort.

lol

Prostitution should be legalize and become a taxed business. Period.
In the meantime,
"Kudos" to these old Jello butts paying for this "dating" service.
Thanks to them for providing "entertainment" wherever they go as a "couple."

This sh*t has been around forever, it's just found it's way to the internet.

I'll bet a lot of normal, as in not molested/bitter, people enjoy this and we all sit here thinking, "How COULD they?!"

To me, this is a statement about our economy - that we have officially attained 3rd world status when the only way some of our youth can afford a college education is through prostitution. I was poor and went to college in the 60's with a full scholarship -- back then - full scholarship meant tuition and total room and board and enough for fees. I lived quite well. These days - scholarship means tuition - if you are lucky, and a $100,000 loan to pay off on a $30,000/yr salary. Forget getting a house or affording children. This is not a civilized country, when the top 1% own over 50% of the wealth, leaving the rest of us to fend for ourselves - including prostitution to make tuition payments!

Can someone please help me NOT become a misogynist after reading that article? I'm a 31 year old male professional who is not rich, and stuff like this makes me think that every woman I meet is just a shady, materialistic, conniving person looking to size me up for my earning potential, and that if I don't spend enough, she always has the option to find some rich old lech who can buy her tons of junk. Are American women really this soulless and greedy? This is seriously depressing.

Can someone please help me NOT become a misandrist after reading this article? I'm a 45 year old, attractive female professional who is not beautiful or in her 20's, and stuff like this makes me think that every man I meet is a shady, shallow person looking to size me up for my trophy status potential, and that if I'm not beautiful enough, he always has the option to find some young, gold-digger for whom he can buy tons of junk and use to impress his friends. Are American men really this soulless and shallow? This is seriously depressing. ( thanks for the inspiration Chelvis!)

No need to worry Chelvis, neither should you Sareader.
Birds of feather flock together. Which means that there is always someone who is more or less a match in your thinking. Smarts to smarts, airheads to airheads.

good. i hope more women who are looking for this type of arrangement use this site and stay the heck off of dating sites where people are looking for an actual relationship.
04:08 PM on 04/12/2009
this is not a dating website, it is a prostitution website, you could at least headline the article accurately

Equal opportunity-wise..how about:

sugarmommymeet.com

or

cougarmingle.com

i was a sugar daddy. it gets old too. it still comes down to paying a prostitute , because she gets little or nothing out of it , but what you pay her... you pay her to go away.

OK, you're an a^&*hole.

There wouldn't be a supply if there wasn't a demand. It works both ways, sweetheart.

It really isn't much different than paying alimony. In either event, it's a man supporting a woman in the style to which she has our would like to become accustomed; only one pays up front while the other pays at the end.

And each promotes the continuing belief that women are incapable of supporting themselves and must depend upon the largess of the sugar daddy. Heaven forbid that a man and a woman have a relationship based upon equality of human beings.
02:12 PM on 04/12/2009
It is different from alimony. Alimony is about compensation for the time a spouse spent making the house go round while the other was out trying to bring the bacon home. In this kind of arrangement, profit should be for all parties involved, thus the alimony.

So, if I understand your logic, when one person brings home the bacon to share with the family and the other does the housework, the person who brings home the bacon is supposed to keep "sharing the profit" after the other doesn't make the "house go round" any more? Sound to me like it's a little out of balance. One party profits while the other keeps on paying. Thus, it is only "prostitution" on a buy now pay later plan.
