SNL: Zac Efron Hosts, Biden Welcomes Obama Home, Weekend Update

Zac Efron of "High School Musical" fame hosted this week's Saturday Night Live. The opening skit showed Vice President Biden keeping the Oval office warm for President Obama and welcoming the President back from his trip abroad. Biden was his usual effusive self. Other noteworthy skits included "High School Musical 4," a "cool" bar where the patrons are all unusually young, and Weekend Update.

SNL continues to cruise from it's Sarah Palin highs of last year. This Biden bit was massively unfunny and predictable. To label Biden simply as a loud mouthed idiotic blowhard isn't clever, creative or accurate.

I would instead like to see them come up with a skit about a bunch of lazy slob writers just phoning it in rather than working hard to stay fresh and topical. It would be much more appropriat­e...

I really tried to appreciate it in some way, but it simply wasn't Biden. I love Biden - would have voted for him for president - and I can laugh at his foibles, just as he can - but this was just crass.

Biden is likely the biggest baffoon to ever hold office. if something ever happened that resulted in Biden taking office of President from Obama , I would be willing to give Hillary eight years guaranteed to prevent it..

The bit about Biden was okay. However, SNL has lost its edge -- most of the material is not funny!

What they -desperately- need is some great new writers. (But don't steal them from The Colbert Report, please!)

I thought the Biden impression was very good--captured the energy, enthusiasm, and loveable over-the-top (occasional foot-in-the-mouth) earnestness of our VEEP.

It's not his fault they aren't writing better skits for him. SNL needs some comedy writers who have a sharp sense of irony and don't rely on a tired old formula.

I can see how Rush or one of his dittoheads could get a kick out of this stuff, but there is a quite noticeable line between comedy and sheer B.S. That line has been stomped on and obliterated by the current Saturday Night Live. If I never have to see any phony SNL skits again, either on NBC or HuffPo, I will be both happier and deeply grateful.

When you spoof somebody, isn't it supposed to be at least loosely based on who the person actually is and how they behave? Aside from the fact that the guy playing Biden doesn't talk, sound or act anything like him, the writers also don't seem to be basing the caricature on anything to do with reality whatsoever.

Fail.
