newser.com:

Barack Obama is looking for a church, but what's his religion?

Through the campaign, he was dogged by the rumor that he's secretly a Muslim, a sleeper-believer in the West. His purported bow to the Saudi King on his recent trip, categorically denied by the White House, got the conspiracists going again (the more the conspiracists fulminate, the more his virtue and reasonableness seem evident). The "dip," or perhaps the canny appearance of a dip, did, however, certainly win him (and the US) points in the Arab world.

Of course, then there was the first Seder in the White House, in which the president no doubt would have liked to be the one asking the four questions. (It's rather amazing no previous president has thought of a White House Seder--especially with Passover becoming such a sought-after invitation among non-Jews.)

Barack Obama said he is a Christian. It's between him and God through Jesus Christ. Denominations are optional.

Why does he continue to allow public funds to go to discriminatory groups through Bush's "faith-based" program?

Barack is of the religion that says we should help each other that we need each other and we should treat each other with respect.

I have no clue what religion that is. I do know that its NOT Christianity. It may be in their teachings but its NOT what they practice. They are narrow minded dogmatic self righteous judgemental selfish group.

Is it any wonder he doesnt fit in with the religion I mean look at how all religions squabble and oppress its hard for someone who beleives in Logic and humanity to fit in with these religions. You can believe in a higher purpose and live a moral and spirtual life where you do unto others and treat each person fairly without attaching some label to it like Christianity, Muslim, Judiasm etc. These relgiions have NO respect for each other THEY ARE THE PROBLEM. President Obama doesnt fit because he has RESPECT for all religions he believes in true freedom of religion. Not the crap that the religious Christian right want to shove down our throats telling us how we should live our lives and that we are evil if we dont do it their way.

President Obama is of the 21st century these religion are 18th 19th and 20th century. HE is more ADVANCED than they are

New American Religion ? Michael, articles like this are unnecessary and divisive. President Obama may be looking for a church to worship at, but he is a Christian. For the sake of argument, if we did have a President that was a Muslim, for this is America, and we claim freedom of religion, would you object? Or, if the President was a Jew? So I ask you, is there an American Religion? We all know the answer is "no'!

In my opinion, Obama is a secular humanist/pragmatist who loosely wears the mantle of Christianity out of political necessity. The same can be said of many US presidents, and arguably all the great ones.

Ask him. He's quite approachable. I was inspired in meeting him. And I am delighted he is our President.

Wish I could live long enough to see a day when it really didn't matter what someone's religion is. Sure would be a more peaceful planet if we didn't judge people by anything other than how they treat each other.

Barak Obama is a Christian, as is his wife. They have said so, many times.

Not Unitarians, nor Buddhists. Not pretending. Christian

What seems to confuse people is that he actually acts like a real follower of Christ is supposed to. We're so used to the Religious Right version of Christian, and the RNC attacks on anyone who doesn't at least pretend to their brand of religiousity that a lot of us don't seem to recognize or appreciate it.

Let's at least respect it.

Not necessarily. I am Unitarian. I value Christianity, but would not call myself a Christian.

Ther are people who claim to be Christian that are Unitarian. It's my opinion that if you are a Christian you attend a Christian Church. I've been to the Unitarian Church several times and it's my opinion that they really don't believe in anything.

Barack Obama lives a good life. He does his best every day. He has a faith in God that is inspiring but he has no need to force others to do it in the same way that he does, or even at all. There is a wisdom in understanding that each person's relationship with the Divine is personal, unique to the individual and private. When people attempt to force the views of what they say God wants on others, they are living a life very contrary to the life that Jesus demonstrated for us. As Jesus said, he could have called ten thousand angels----but he didn't. He never forced anyone to do anything. People who think that they know exactly what God wants and that it is their duty to force others to do it that way are living a life contrary to the one Jesus showed us. Admittedly this a view taken from the perspective of believing in God. That has been my experience. Feel free to have whatever experience is right for you. I'm only speaking for myself from where I stand.

Barack has no need to belong to one particular church because he has a personal relationship with God. That isn't going to change to fit the rules of any denomination. He's just looking for a place to worship God in the company of others.

He maintains separation of church and state. And we need to keep our mouths of his spiritual experience.

Obama has never once said anything about the separation of church and state. So, Link please?

HE IS CONTINUING THE BUSH FAITH BASED INITIATIVES.

--That is NOT someone who maintains the separation of church and state.

President Obama signed legislation for stem cell research which Bush did not allow for 8 years. That is separation of Church and State.

All religions are equally true so there is no problem believing all of them all at once if you want. Saves time and you get more holidays.

It is impossible for all religions to be true, because every religion includes beliefs that are contradicted by the beliefs of one or more other religions. At best, only one religion can be true. More likely, all are false.

President Obama is a Christian. As to which church he will prefer going to is his business and no one elses. Yes, we have separation of church and state...yet there are those that will sensationalize, and criticize our President regardless of what he does. I challenge those that do this. Faith is a personal matter. Butt out.

That's one of President Obama efforts to keep everyone happy and satisfied. A very challenging job.

Somebody commented on a different post that described Obama as King Tightrope Walker.
I couldn't agree more.
