First Posted: 05/14/09 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 02:15 PM ET

In this shocking video, polar bears at a German zoo attacked a woman who climbed into the enclosure. The Daily Mail reports:

She was bitten by one of the four older polar bears in the enclosure and not by the famous Knut, who took Germany by storm as a cub after he was hand-raised by a keeper.

It is not known why the woman pulled the dangerous stunt but she initially appeared to be elated as she swam towards a bear in the enclosure.

Read the rest of their report here.

I've read she "thought" it was a petting opportunity. That is simply crazy. Especially since she swam over. Who the heck does that?

why is this a "shocking video"? she climbed into the cage where a dangerous animal lives. what did she think was going to happen? that she would hug the bear and take a snap shot. this is just as stupid as the kids who did this in the tiger cage in the SF zoo a while back.
