Impeached former Gov. Rod Blagojevich pleaded not guilty to federal corruption charges Tuesday. His brother, Robert, also pleaded not guilty.

Blagojevich did not enter a statement before the plea, but he told the reporters and onlookers who mobbed him as entered the courthouse that he was "innocent of every single accusation."

Blagojevich had a big smile as he entered the courthouse, but he the former governor was clearly in no mood to talk when he left his Ravenswood home on the way there. Blagojevich sent out a decoy car while his SUV made a hasty exit through the back alley:

Blago may well be found not guilty. He has the right to the "presumption of innocence," which is a foundational principle of our legal system, and our system rightly puts the burden on the prosecution to prove his guilt beyond a doubt. But a verdict of "not guilty" will never "prove" his innocence morally. We have heard too much. It's too bad Blago doesn't understand the difference.
