I Like ItI Don’t Like It

One of the areas of concern cited by Media Matters in their letter to Chris Wallace is Glenn Beck, who the organization criticizes for "engag[ing] in increasingly outrageous, demagogic, and conspiratorial rhetoric." Driving that point home for Media Matters is their hilarious mashup video which neatly summarizes Beck's "news" show -- a cable news venue in which the government is "full of vampires" who are enslaving children as a part of a one-world government scheme and where production assistants have gasoline poured on them. It's all really part of a comedy act that Glenn Beck calls "poor man's Seinfeld" and which the rest of the world refers to as "John Birch Society pamphlets shrieked aloud by a bipolar jackass."

I know people (who are normally very intelligent folks) who think that the stimulus legislation is a government plot to take over businesses. (I wonder where they got that idea)

The worst part is that there's no argument or explanation that will convince them that that's not true.

What the hell can reasonable people do about this?

Come live among your own. There is no rational statement you can make to change their minds. I have a relative who thinks that way. I see how the Civil War started. Sometimes you just cannot compromise your values or your sanity.

There are also people who believe that the new digital boxes are not for tv reception but so the government can keep an eye on you.

I can't tell -- is he just a partisan performance artist like Limbaugh or genuinely unhinged...?

It doesn't matter. The dim-bulb dittoheads can't tell the difference.

If we hadn't neglected our country's public schools for the past forty years, this verifiable nut job would have an audience of zero. We're seeing what happens when you have a mass of uneducated people living in close proximity. Time to pay the piper...

The modern American right wing consists of a handful of rich people manipulating a large number of uneducated and (unfortunately) unhinged people to defend their economic status quo. It's disgusting, really.

Whenever you hear one of their "theories," you can always trace it back to the point at which somebody lied. Whether it's pictures of North Korean work camps being passed off as American concentration camps or a quote being taken so blatantly out of context that the person who lifted it had to know it meant the opposite, somebody at some point in each information chain cynically lied to make up that wingnut theory. Everyone who passed it on after that either knew better or should have checked. Thus, all Republicans are either evil or stupid; either liars or fools.

Paul Krugman is right: The Republicans are crazy. They've been crazy for a long while and it's secured them the Presidency for 36 of the past 48 years. Glenn Beck doesn't need any grasp on reason to cry, but we might all weep along with him.

Okay, America. Here is the deal. The election of a Black man to President of this great country has truly disturbed and outraged the average White male Republican. They still cannot believe this has happened. This election has brought out the worse in these right wing radicals. They are truly struggling with the notion of any person of color or any person that is non-white occupying the highest and most powerful position in this country. This has caused them to actually Go-Crazy. Get ready America. This is a prophecy-The election of President Obama has opened the door to the Presidency being occupied by someone other than a white man. This country will now see more people of color, Hispanics, females, etc. in the White House.

It pisses them off that he exists. He's living refutation of the white supremacist creed. And it's about time that myth was busted!

Glenn, the Jackal is very dangerous. He's not a high paid Bozo like O'Reilly or Limbaugh, although he has features in common (addiction). His being a "recovering" alcoholic and unredeemed Mormon--that's a heady combination: Magic underwear and a dry drunk. He will act out his pain in ways that make no sense to anyone but himself. And don't underestimate this guy. His neo-fascistic craziness is highly attractive to about a third of the public. How many Nazis did it take for the Weimar Republic to go down--not a majority by any means? Don't underestimate Herr Beck. His incoherent, tearful ranting is like heroine to the Future Brown Shirts of America. He needs no reasoning; he needs no coherent ideas. His play is to irrational hatred and fear. Beware.

Calm down TRex... Beck is nuts and there are other nuts who buy into his drivel but it is nowhere near 33% of us. The real danger lies in one or two loonies with violent dispositions hearing him spout his crap and thinking that because things like that can be said in public they must be true. I believe there is a connection between the kind of things Beck says and the kind of things that happened with the gunman in Pittsburgh and I think it is up to all of us to figure out a way to get him and others like him to exhibit a little self discipline. The rights we enjoy as Americans bring with them responsibilities. Not abusing those rights is one of them and he is certainly making a mockery of the First Amendment.

This is a very sick man. There is an almost overwhelming amount of evidence that he should be institutionalized, It is as if he is having a slow motion public nervous breakdown. Imagine, if you can, how painful it must be for him to spend all of his time inside his own head. I am shocked that the Christian Right isn't conducting a prayer vigil for him.

Well done, Media Matters, well done. All you have to do is show him for what he is.

The so called "conservatives" brought this on themselves ... so now they are having the nervous breakdown they deserved and probably wanted. From Clinton to the present there coffers of sanity are bankrupt and mentally worthless.

Bottom line is they never had a clue in the first place. They all lined up behind these corporate media propagandists who never support anything that actually works for the people. "Conservatives" never get their payoff because there isn't one. It's all a bunch of complaining and pointing fingers to avoid who they really are. Scared, angry, babies who expect everyone else to play fair while they refuse to be honest.

This man is actually just getting started. His show's ratings are just stoking the fire. He'll just keep building up the lunacy to the point of self destruction. In the nuclear field it's referred to as a meltdown.

Is he dangerous? No doubt; there are other unstable individuals that buy his pap and are armed.
