Glenn Beck Parodied As The Patient Zero Of 'Obama Derangement Syndrome'

One of the areas of concern cited by Media Matters in their letter to Chris Wallace is Glenn Beck, who the organization criticizes for "engag[ing] in increasingly outrageous, demagogic, and conspiratorial rhetoric." Driving that point home for Media Matters is their hilarious mashup video which neatly summarizes Beck's "news" show -- a cable news venue in which the government is "full of vampires" who are enslaving children as a part of a one-world government scheme and where production assistants have gasoline poured on them. It's all really part of a comedy act that Glenn Beck calls "poor man's Seinfeld" and which the rest of the world refers to as "John Birch Society pamphlets shrieked aloud by a bipolar jackass."

The decline and fall of the Republican party would be funny if it were not so scary. They are in an advanced state of necrosis. Their leaders are not offering anything of value to the public discussion of how to go forward. Perhaps they do not want to go forward. They just want to sit in a rut and feel sorry for themselves.

If the prominent leaders of the GOP have any will to stear this country into a sustainable, productive and healthy future, do they think it can be done by having media events with tea bags? Do they think it can be done with illusory budgets and unnecessary wars. Can it be done without investment, monitoring, and oversight of the government's properties and responsibilities? How exactly?

Public service has to be something other than leaving the cash register full of money so you can skim off a little bit from time to time as you leave the office. It has to be more than rigid worship of dead heroes, even if they are movie stars. Otherwise, all this is just cauterwalling from the self absorbed right, self business, not the public's business.
