Scarborough To Coleman: "You Lost... It Is Over" (VIDEO)

First Posted: 05/15/09 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 02:15 PM ET

The drumbeat is growing louder for former Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman to drop his long-shot appeal of the state's prolonged recount.

In the wake of a three-judge panel declaring that Al Franken was the leading vote-getter of the U.S. Senate election, MSNBC's Joe Scarborough offered a preemptive and withering criticism of Coleman's likely appeal of that decision to the state Supreme Court.

"Seriously. Norm, I like you. You lost. Okay," he said. "Can we seat a senator so Amy [Klobuchar] doesn't have to do the job of two Senators? It is seriously not fair to constituents in Minnesota to drag this out any longer. It is over Norm, okay. It is over."

Ouch. Somewhere in the halls of the DSCC, people are cheering.

The problem, of course, is that Coleman has no incentive to drop his appeal at this juncture. His last-ditch effort is being cheered on by Republicans in Washington who are doing whatever they can - politically and financially - to work against the seating of Franken (who would be the 59th caucusing Democrat in the Senate).

"When are Republicans going to give up the ghost on this?" Scarborough asked before his mini diatribe.

Additionally, there has been scant political pressure put on Minnesota's Gov. Tim Pawlenty to actually sign the letter certifying Franken's election. That could change in the wake of Monday night's ruling. In all likelihood, however, Minnesotans will have to wait till the state Supreme Court weighs in.

The Minnesota Supreme Court won't have very much to do. Coleman took a beating on every single issue he wants the Supreme Court to reverse and rule in his favor. I don't think that's likely. I don't think he stands a chance. What I really don't think is that this is an Election Contest, any more.
With the GOP and Lobby interests funding it, and Governor Pawlenty playing right along and making sure that the Senate Seat remains vacant; My feeling is that we are dealing with a Conspiracy.
A Conspiracy that is as loathsome of any we have ever had to deal with before. Because this one involves the bastardizing of out Democratic Process.
The 59th Seat in the Senate is the issue. Keeping it from being occupied by a Democrat. The GOP has pulled-out all the stops.
Why won't Governor Pawlenty PROVISIONALLY Seat Franken? Three times he's been Declared the winner. Most recently, the Election Contest Court. Three Judges. Unanimously Ruled Franken the winner and Ordered the Election Certificate be issued. Pawlenty does nothing. The seat is vacant.
Innitiate an investigation into the matter. At least PROVE it ISN'T a Conspiracy, because it sure has all the elements of one. Our Democratic Process is under assault. Every moment that passes with the Minnesota Senate seat remaining vacant, is another moment that we are Dictated too rather than being Represented. Coleman and Pawlenty are seeing to it. Do allow it to continue. Sound off!

he is looking worse and worse and even worse than before.
there are people who did vote for him that regret it now that they see the real man

I've always liked Joe Scarborough. I might not always agree with him, but he's one of the few Republicans I have seen on TV who always sides on the rational, even if its against party.

This is a sad day for Minnesota and a sad day for our country. Franken, a vulgar mysogynist clown who needed a new career, ran a smear campaign funded by anti-American Soros funds and with newly found votes aided by the indicted ACORN group. Coleman won the election on election day and Franken's newly found votes were enough to put him ahead the second time around. This was not a level playing field. Votes were not treated the same in all counties. Soros legal team outspent Coleman's group by a huge margin.Decent people cannot fight this corruption. Minnesota and the country have lost.

My question is why haven't we seen or heard outrage from the people of Minnesota? They should be in an uproar over this. If the people of Minnesota would let their voices be heard, it could put an end to this. Now, I don't live there so I can't judge (just an opinion) or assume they are not but it doesn't seem nor have I seen any evidence of the people protesting this farce. Coleman hasn't done the right thing yet which is a good indication of how poorly he would have been as a Senator.

All this shows what a tool Norm Coleman is. He cares not a whit about Minnesota or what is good for this country. Oh, yeah, he's a Republican.

I want everyone to contrast the Republican response to the Minnesota senate race to the Democrats response to the 2000 presidential race. In the face of obvious vote fraud, a Florida secretary of state who would have given the election to Bush if Gore had won by 200,000 votes and the only remedy a long protracted fight the only answer. Gore beyond graciously concedes for the good of the country quickly and in his concession speech references the qualities that make American democracy great. The rule of law, orderly succession, civil debate, all in the face of the farce that the Repubs had created in Palm Beach county.

Coleman and the national GOP, make no mistake the national party is the driving force here, are taking a different approach. Spend money on lawyers until Rush Limbaugh runs out of money. What a bunch of creeps. Minnesota, suppose Coleman steals the election, do you want him as your senator? Granted he would make a perfect bookend for Michelle Bachmann, but isn't there a one cretin per state limit on representation?

I think that all of you are just a little too bit optimistic. The Republicans want to push this to see just how far they can go in dismantling our government brick by brick. When they can't rig voting machines or stuff ballot boxes or buy votes with all that money they stole from us they are now trying to overturn elections through the courts and their crooked governors.

They will keep Franken out entirely for the majority of his term. The only way out of this is to take election arbitration out of the control of the Republican packed judicial system one way or another. This is not an issue of third parties spoiling the milk it is instead about Republicans committing treason year after year after year and not having to pay the price for their lawlessness because democrats are too soft on prosecuting Republican treason.

Prosecute, adjudicate, incarcerate!

I hate to bring this up- but if the voters who voted for the third party had supported the liberal Democrat, we would not be in this mess. Franken would have won with no problem. I hope that Minnesota voters think about that next time. The same thing that made problems for all of us in 2000. As nice as a 3rd party would be, without a parliamentary system it just plays to the slim margins. Republicans show us every day that they don't care about dialogue, they don't care about the country, they just want to win.

I disagree that this is about third parties as much as I find them a problem. Franken won every count that was made. He should be in the US Senate now. In consideration of the circumstances, Harry Reid should override any further partisan manipulations by the Republican governor and seat Franken and begin an inquiry of why this whole mess has been allowed to go on for so damn long. But Harry "Sluggo" Reid is a chicken who is afraid of his own shadow.

These senators work for the whole country and their decisions concern the whole country. This situation cries out for election reform which would require votes to be final and not subject to frivolous challenges. We have 1.5 million people dead in Iraq because Bush was allowed to steal an election in 2000 to allow thefts of oil from that country. Jail the perp Republicans for a decade or two.
05:26 PM on 04/15/2009
You've got that right! Harry is a spineless twit! Were the players reversed and Republicans in the majority, they would have long seated Coleman. Generally speaking I despise what the Republicans have devolved into, yet a part of me reluctanly admires their "don't give a chit" tenacity.

I have no use for the wingnut, right wing screamers other than the fact that they continually point out what a bankrupt (no pun intended) party the Republican Party is. But I did gain a lot of respect for Scarborough when he spent about ten minutes on TV about a year ago asking and then answering the question, "Is Bush an Idiot?" And it was quite clear that he believed the answer to that question was affirmative. At that moment, he distinguished himself (for at least the moment) as not a dittohead. One of the great tragedies of the Republicans as a party is that they do not tolerate dissent--so, to all of you all-of-a-sudden Rep fiscal conservatives, where the f**k were you the last 8 years when Bush bankrupted the nation financially and morally?? At least Scarborough had the cojones to question the sanity of the decider-in-chief.

True, But IMHO, he's still one arrogant MF'er!

Joe the Butt Head finally said something I agree with; Norm Coleman and the ditto heads are idiots and un-American...Un-Patriotic and Losers. Time to give it up Norm.
