Several Republican lawmakers are expected at 750 Boston Tea Party-styled protests to mark the day federal taxes are due.

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) is attending a party in Bakersfield, Calif., while House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) will join protestors in Madison, Wis.

Former Speaker Newt Gingrich is said to be attending an event in New York, and other lawmakers could attend parties from coast to coast, though organizers said they couldn't say how many lawmakers would show up.

THE PICTURE

...isn't it against the flag code and considered disrespectful to wear the flag as clothing?

...why yes it is!! They're so patriotic they apparently don't know this...this kind of faux patriotism makes me sick, if they have to flaunt it this much it shows how fake and shallow their patriotism really is.

The Flag Code states that the flag should never be worn. (Section 8d): "The flag should never be used as wearing apparel."

Folks like Rep. Boehner complain about spending in this country but had no problem proposing an additional tax break for himself and his cohorts. Hypocrites!

It doesn't require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires to people's minds. — Samuel Adams

Those nutbags complain about socialism, but their kids are in public school, their parents collect social security, they wouldn't hesitate to call the local fire dept. if their house was on fire and they drove to the tea party on public roads. In the infamous words of Dubya, "mission accomplished." Rush and Sean must be sooooo proud.

socialism –noun
1. a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.
2. procedure or practice in accordance with this theory.
3. (in Marxist theory) the stage following capitalism in the transition of a society to communism, characterized by the imperfect implementation of collectivist principles.

So, protesting 'socialism' in a public park is a bit hypocritical, dontcha know. You pay taxes because certain things are better accomplished by society, rather than the individual. Like police and fire departments. And roads. And parks.

Seems to me it is you that doesn't have a clue.

This entire exercise of tea-partying has been really interesting to watch. Not one person can clearly or eloquently explain WHY they are protesting, the meaning of their actions, and the intended RESULT of their protests. The posters of the protestors have messages spanning an entire range of hate from terrorism to taxes to stimulus to Obama bashing to socialism to racism to gun rights to abortion. It seems that this is one big forum to allow any crazy person to come out, draped in an American flag in some un-patriotic way, which is against the very "patriotic" nature this event is supposed to represent. I have not seen any Republican official on TV at one of these events. I also do not see ANY teabags at these events. The best is that FOX news is not even covering these events in favor of other news. They keep showing the same few images on a loop from Michigan which doesn't surprise me since the majority of the people in that town are out of work and probably meandered over to see what's going on.

From the AP:

"The tea parties have been promoted by FreedomWorks, a conservative nonprofit advocacy group based in Washington and led by former Republican House Majority Leader Dick Armey of Texas. The group's federal tax returns show it has both educational and charitable arms, which together received more than $6 million in donations in 2007, the most recent year for which returns are available.

The group is not required by law to disclose its donors. FreedomWorks spokesman Adam Brandon did not immediately return calls seeking comment about the group's financial backers.

Armey, who the tax returns show was paid $400,000 by FreedomWorks in 2007, also is registered as a lobbyist for the firm DLA Piper, and has listed corporate clients there including Verizon, Raytheon, liquor maker Diageo, CarMax and drug company Sanofi Pasteur."

So much for the "grassroots movement" lie.

What is with Republicans and horrible fashion sense? Someone send in the fashion police and rescue the Red, White and Blue!

And hey, Cruella DeVille, lift your head up, we want to see your wingnut face.

It makes me sick to see people wear the American flag and it's always the wacko's that do. But they are the most patriotic people EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As soon as I saw the picture, I had to comment, and yours was already there. It disgusts me to see people who proclaim themselves patriots dress themselves in the American flag and it sure does shoot their image right down.

They are having a tea-bag protest in Madison, Wisconsin. I don't think that will turn out so good. Madison went overwhelmnely (sp) for President Obama. I can guarantee you that these protestors don't have a clue as to what they are protesting. This ought to be interesting.

While posting on this subject yesterday, I was struck by the comments of the supposed "tea-baggers".

They didn't really seem to have a clear reason why they intended to protest, aside from a rather "generalized" dislike for President Obama, they just knew they were "mad as hell, and not going to take it anymore".

They insisted that this was a "grass-roots" movement, that sprung up spontaneously after the repeated insult of the Federal Government failing to address their frustration over spending. NOT ONE seemed to have an alternative plan, aside from "NOT SPENDING". They all felt that after OVER 60 DAYS of not having their voices heard, they were left with NO OTHER CHOICE than to take the issue to the streets and protest.

The "punch line" that really got me was that the vast majority didn't seem to understand why ANYONE would accuse the protesters of being "Partisan". They suggested that they were perfectly reasonable people who had simply been "pushed too far" by the Administration (in less than 3 months) and were exercising their "Constitutional Right" to have their voices heard. They suggested that these "protests" were being organized, and attended by "Democrats, Liberals, Independents and Conservatives" who were "fed up" with the Administrations lack of response to their concerns and the apparent efforts to "Socialize" America, and the "huge growth" of the Federal Government that has taken place in the past 85 days.

A hint to anyone who tries to discuss the protests with any of these people; DO NOT introduce any FACTS or attempt to apply reason to the discussion. They are impervious to these tactics!

And don't you just love it when you cite facts and one of 'em (usually a Republican) says you're entitled to your own opinion!

If you ask a dozen different people attending the "tea parties" why they plan to attend, you will get a dozen different reasons and none will have any merit based on reality.

Obama has not raised taxes, he has cut them for the vast majority of Americans.

The Bush Administration created the national deficit problem, and now we MUST invest federal dollars to re-right the ship.

And it was the LACK of government regulation that caused the banking system to crash.

Complaining about "socialism"? Does that mean you plan to refuse Medicare when you become eligible? Will you encourage your elderly loved ones to do likewise? Cause there isn't anything more "socialistic" at the federal level than taxpayer-subsidized health care for senior citizens.

Or are you one of those extreme right-wing fringe whack-jobs that still think Obama is a Muslim...or a foreigner....or an alien?

And to the handful of folks that mistakenly believed that they would be participating in a genuine grass roots political event, well, there is no Easter bunny either. It is true that you have every right to protest, air your concerns, and express your anger about the economy. But at the same time, the reality is that you are being reduced to a propaganda tool for the bozos on FOX News, FreedomWorks, and elsewhere that wish to exploit your concerns for their own self-serving, disingenuous purposes. Best to take a hot shower when you get home.
