Fox News:

The attention being given the national tea party movement is nothing short of remarkable. Organized by a few people using new social media tools like Twitter and Facebook, it has blossomed into a genuine social movement composed of Republicans, Libertarians, Independents and even a few Democrats, all of whom feel as though they are being taken for granted by their elected leaders in Washington.

Look, there was a tax protest. No one died. The sun came up the next day. People on the left protest, and on occasion, people on the right protest. It's healthy. So much made of so little. It seems some believe all protests should be of a left leaning only. That's not very tolerant.

I went to the Piscataway NJ event in Johnson Park. The crowd was located between the rest rooms and the swing set. 538.com reports 500 in attendance. I beg to differ. There were over 100, but nowhere 500. 200 to 250 would be my maximum estimate. Many were carrying Steve Lonegan for Governor signs. Lonegan, a Bogota NJ mayor, made headlines a while back because he was upset with Spanish language billboards in his town All at the event were white.

"All at the event were white"
Not surprised at all.
These all look like white power rallies.
Tea bags are the new white hood

The miracle of this mini-movement is that it showed how few people really are scared of Obama. It is still embarassing that the rest of the world looks at America and sees teabaggers. But even the most outrageously over-stated number of participants is still less than one half of one percent of the US population.
They're loud, they ain't pretty. They're the drunk relatives at the funeral, smoking out back. They make us look bad. But they're not US.

In Sacramento, 10,000 showed up. One organizer said that the last time he saw anything remotely close to this, it ushered in a full-blown tax revolt in Prop 13 in CA.

It's coming.

Or the crowd numbers of an Obama campaign rally.
Please, don't mention that it's coming on a blog post about what teabagging accomplishes.

No Ann.
Barely 5,000 showed up.
You are blowing up the numbers just like Faux news is doing.

"Before a crowd that organizers claimed was 15,000 to 20,000, but these experienced ex-advance man's eyes saw as about 3,000"

Republican ideas are so unpopular that they have to try to trick people into believing that these “tea parties” are universal, bipartisan movements instead of an excuse to mask Republican protests against the Democrats. Elections have consequences and the losers get to see the other side implement their ideas. Anyone attending these tea parties should take a good look around and see that many of the signs are straight from a Republican rally and the guest speakers are Republican political and media personalities.

What exactly was that mission? To show signs saying that American citizens are like Jews being thrown in the ovens by Obama? Or signs saying the reason we have the 2nd Amendment is to make sure politicians listen to us? Really, is that what they wanted to accomplish?

Okay...maybe it's me who's just NOT THAT BRIGHT...so can someone explain how Sean Hannity expects the government to DOUBLE DOWN ON DEFENSE while cutting taxes at the same time?

That's exactly what he said in a news interview on wsbtv Atlanta.

Who are the "subversives" now?

Are the FBI/CIA/SS/TSA taking note?

On top of that, Thomas Paine was a radical liberal who would have applauded the stimulus and would have felt it didn't go far enough. He wanted to tax the heck out of the "aristocrats" and give a chunk of cash to every kid when they turned 18 to go to college, buy a farm, start a business. Conservatives would rather like Edmund Burke. After all, he was knighted by the same people we won our independence from. The British Empire liked conservatism back then.

The whole original Boston Tea Party was a protest against the British East India Company. The British government CUT THEIR TAXES, and they were able to undercut the local merchants. The local tea merchants were the ones dumping tea into the harbor. And yes, they were taxed WITHOUT representation. These people have representation, unless you come from one of the island territories. Then you don't have adequate representation. Sorry about that.

I can't even post any of this on any of the right wing sites because it keeps getting moderated out. They are seriously living in their own inpenetrable echo box.

It's the American way to forget our history, if we ever even learn it at all.

We have now arrived: We are now the permanent laughing stock of the entire world. Thanks right wingers. Thanks a lot.

really..... I don't think the entire world laughed. Much of the "entire world" couldn't have peacefully protested a thing. It was a protest you didn't agree with, it was nothing more than that. You don't object to the peoples right to protest, do you?

It goes without saying, those people are complete idiots. The only people with a tax hike were the top 2 percent, and they already aren't paying squat for state and local taxes.

The reason for these people is purely because they live in an echo chamber and get their information from that echo chamber. They don't see the facts, ever. They get told what to think. They get told there was a tax hike, even though there was a tax cut. They never hear about a tax cut. Rich people who DID get their taxes hiked back to where they were pre-Bush tell all these people that EVERYONE got a tax hike, even though they probably got a cut.

"My children can't go to college because of taxes!" What a freaking oxymoron. Taxes FUND state colleges. "The US is a Christian state!" No, it's not. It's secular as Thomas Jefferson intended it to be. "The bailouts! The bailouts!" Ha. Your hero Bush already put us up to our eyeballs in ownership of banks. The CEOs of those banks would rather the banks fail than more regulations to keep them from causing the same mess to be put in place. If you let them fail, you're immediately out 700 billion...that isn't coming back. That's 3 years of Iraq war type money. If you pump more in, you have a chance of recouping some of that back. That's why they did it and weren't happy about it.

What they accomplished is to provide plenty of material for late-night comedians. Beyond that--not much.
