Bronze Sculpture Of Boss Daley Going Once, Going Twice . . .

A bronzed bust of Mayor Richard J. Daley for sale on Craigslist is commanding a whopping $1.

Oak Lawn resident Jim Farmer bought the sculpture of Hizzoner for $8, thinking he could sell it for as much as $1,500.

"I've put it on the Craigslist three or four times before but no one responded," Farmer told the Huffington Post. This time he decided to go with a surefire sale price: $1. After WBBM Radio reported on the sculpture Thursday morning, Farmer said he's been deluged with calls and bids as high as $300.

Farmer, 54, said he bought the bust from a woman at an estate sale in 1977 whose late husband was a Daley bodyguard. The woman, Farmer said, told him that Daley the busts to her husband and seven other people.

Farmer saw the piece and bought it right up.

"I've lived in Chicago most of my life and was always intrigued by Daley," Farmer said. "To me, he was like the Chicago boss."

Daley, the father of Chicago's current mayor, Richard M. Daley, was mayor of Chicago from 1955 until he died in office in 1976.
