Hud Mellencamp, John Mellencamp's Son, Wins Indiana Golden Gloves

INDIANAPOLIS — The 14-year-old son of rock singer John Mellencamp has won a division title in the Indiana Golden Gloves boxing tournament.

Hud Mellencamp, who boxes for the Indy Police Athletic League, earned a 4-1 decision over Cody Bennett of the Southpaw Boxing Club of Owensboro, Ky., in a 132-pound senior-division bout Thursday night.

Nine other open-division winners will represent Indiana in the national Golden Gloves tournament May 4-10 in Salt Lake City.

Mellencamp earned a trophy and a hug from his father, who attended the fight at Tyndall Armory.

5 years ago I worked as a stagehand at a Mellencamp concert in OKC.
As I was pushing a speaker to the truck, he walked by me, and I thanked
him for coming to OKC.

He turned my way, gave me a nod, and said, "Thanks for having me."
