Unemployment

Wall Street Journal:

California and North Carolina in March posted their highest jobless rates in at least three decades, as unemployment increased in all but a handful of states during the month, the Labor Department said Friday.

California's unemployment rate jumped to 11.2% in March, while North Carolina rose to 10.8%, the highest for both since the U.S. government began a comprehensive tally of state joblessness in 1976.

Obama should have spent the trillions on jobs for real people. Instead he gave away trillions to Wall Street and nobody knows where the money went and Obama will not tell us. We need job programs. We need change. We need a new President.

The jobs money really didnt amount to much when divided between all the states. Our infrastructure projects as listed by the state DOT are merely re-surfacing, a couple intersections, few sign and guard rails replacements . No big jobs only the tar companies! To top it off its all gone to LOW BIDDERS again. That automatically cuts out any union jobs. This union preference in the stimulus was smoke and mirrors I believe as no one is seeing jobs over the 25 million as then is required to union preference. Higher education is getting so much money they admit they dont know what to do with it. Figure that when they are laying off teachers! They are re creating the wheel with new programs in GREEN areas yet they offer no adult training for anyone laid off. They are sucking it into a syphon for themselves while they cut K thru 12. Check your states recovery facts and see the LACK of real job creation! Sorry their I go bitchen again. Obama has his head stuck somewhere else but not with who got him there! UNIONS baby had much to do with it and hes turned his back already!

Patience, sue, patience. You should be good at patience since you're from MN. It's only been 89 days since inauguration.

On what basis, carol? We are too impatient and we want what we want now! I don't think it'll fly. Give the man a chance for pity's sake. It's only been 89 days since inauguration.

You're confusing President Obama with Bush43. It was under Bush43 that TARP was passed and funded with no oversight. It was under Bush43 that AIG was bailed out. It would be appropriate to give our new President a little more than the 89 days he's been on the job to straighten out Bush43's mess. Patience.

I'm completely bitched out about all this. I just hope they saved enough from the banks to give us another federal UI extension after this one runs out. We're all gonna need it!

What a lot of people don't realize is that the stimulus bill did not include an increase in the number of weeks of unemployment benefits. The bill only extended the amount of time that people can collect the extended weeks that were passed last year. My weeks ran out this month. I am in my 50s and I believe that for those in my age group the rate of unemployment is higher than average.

Sooo many people are misinformed on that. I have already ran out of my 2nd Tier of unemployment like I know a lot of others have. Something needs to be done.

While Obama, Geithner, Bernacke play roulette with a crooked wheel owned by the financial interests, the American economy is self destructing for want of attention and rational policy. When it is too late for rational decision making, this moment will be recorded as the first hundred days ot the great government robbery as our currency multiplied worthlessly for the beneficence of perpetuators of outrageous swindle, reswindle and economic crimes against humanity.
These hundred days have witnessed the most outrageous, reckless financial and economic management in the long history of this endangered Constitution of the United States of America and its Republic. And there is much more of the same going forward on the same organization destroying road.

Put down your hammer! With approval ratings through the ceiling, I think it is safe to conclude that the majority of Americans are happy with the progress made in these 89 days. Drop back in after 180 days or 365 days and report on what you find then. Patience!

It sure climbed here in New Jersey, at least by 1. Wednesday, I lost my job of 16 years. "Your position has been eliminated". I'm not a young, hip, slim, long-haired female, which seems to be the only type they are advancing.

Actually, the official numbers show New Jersey did not increase its unempoloyment rate from Feb to March. It did show the total number of jobs in New Jersey DECREASED by 20,000.

That just proves the unemployment is much worse than official numbers.

That's the big secret behind company layoffs. They are laying off the most senior (older), benefit rich, upper salary, disabled, unhealthy, etc. people while they can do so under cover of the economic downturn. At any other time, these actions would be investigated by the EEOC for the crimes that they are. My co-workers and I of 24 years plus each were all "let go" from our huge law firm while they kept newly hired young, healthy, less benefited, non-disabled and lower salaried people whose jobs we should have been able to fill on the "last in, first out" principle generally applied to layoffs. Many of us have filed EEOC complaints.

There's work in North Dakota and Mississippi, but who in their right mind wants to live there. You mind as well got to the Canadian Arctic. Face it America, we have let corporate and personal greed destroy us and it started over 30 years ago. When we and our leaders decided that we were no longer going to be producers, just consumers, we doomed our country to failure. We got rid of the steel industry and replaced it "the financial industry" where we trade paper of dubious wealth(hows that working out for you?). Don't look for the jobless rate to drop anytime soom. The last one out, turn off the lights, the partys over.

"For such a great and rich country..." is a myth perpetuated by our ownership. We are a bankrupt country who's leaders refuse to recognize the obvious and act accordingly ( rationally).

So can we as a country declare bankruptsy and wipe away all the money we gave the banks and start under a reorganization? They claimed the need to bail out AIG was to preserve the pensions and 401's but the decrease on these, is very little left to salvage! My pension decreases 3500 since last month when things are suppose to be leveling out. largest decrease yet! I have no idea why just get the results of a chart showing it dissappear quicker than I can blink! 14 yrs of building it and gone in less than 1.

Think of it this way. You have a terminal illness with your financial crisis and have not yet figured out what is causing this, so you merely treat it from time-to-time in hopes that it will recover. Treatment is a poor substitute for cure and you are merely prolonging the obvious. Very few posters on here have been able to figure this thing out, but so long as there is division within your country - you're destined to become worse than a 3rd world country.

AIG was bailed out because they are the ones that insure the politicians retirement accounts. They would have been stupid not to bail them out. This administration couldn't care less about the average person. Why would any business stay in this country when it's just going to be over taxed? That doesn't even make sense. With more people getting handouts and fewer people making the money it wont last long. The government can only print so much money before it becomes worthless. Socialism doesn't work, never has, never will.

So, why is anyone surprised? Money goes to the top banks for their tea parties. Consumers lose their retirement, jobs, homes, home equity, get nailed with higher predatory interest rates on credit cards, receive shrunken wages, get zero interest on the savings, and we are surprised with such news as growing unemployment spreading throughout the country? Call the GOP and have a tea party. That will help.

Wait, we're gonna kill off our auto industry just to help kill off Unions so there's way more to come....it's only the beginning of this depression in which the banks will become richer and the people more and more poor...!

We Need Change...!

Meanwhile, Obama is going to force the auto industry into bankruptcy. Nothing like appointinhg a Wall Street crook who only understands corporate Raiding as car czar.

It was Bush's Recession, but the Depression has Obama's signature. The inflation will have Obama's signature althoiugh Geithner and Summers are the Ghost writers.
