Unemployment

Wall Street Journal:

California and North Carolina in March posted their highest jobless rates in at least three decades, as unemployment increased in all but a handful of states during the month, the Labor Department said Friday.

California's unemployment rate jumped to 11.2% in March, while North Carolina rose to 10.8%, the highest for both since the U.S. government began a comprehensive tally of state joblessness in 1976.

a second stimulus package is needed -- otherwise, states like California will be forced to make layoff even more employees, increasing the unemployment mumbers, hobbling the state services, and further increasing the spiraling down of the economy

America’s employment models, and corporate marketing campaigns have empowered American financial institutions to enslave American citizens with unbelievable debt. The myriad of collateralized, and non-collateralized mortgage instruments (debt mechanisms) has made economic pawns of American citizens in light of the current American employment scenario.

Politicians and statisticians are constantly citing the lack of qualified personnel to fill employment positions as corporations continually outsource American jobs. Is corporate America utilizing the qualified, unemployed professionals that are currently in the country? It appears that the corporate bottom line has surpassed the importance of education qualifications, and loyalty to American citizens in terms of equitable employment.

Turn on the creativity engine in all of us --Put the idle minds to work..ENABLE the Citizen Inventors!
This is a suggestion about Stimulus, AND the counter-productive US Patent process.
The US patent process had evolved against the individual inventors. Increased patent fee structure, arcane format and English used in the application document presents insurmountable obstacle for the individual inventors. At this point, there are millions well educated minds that are in idle mode, except from endless and uncertain steps in search of the few illusive job leads.
Why not put these capable, but otherwise eager minds to work on productive, value-creating task of innovation. It is good time to reflect on many unsolved fundamental problems, or in-efficiency from past jobs and innovate workable solutions.
I like to suggest a Federal program of assistance, with grant, documentation and legal resources to the citizen inventors.
Inventors with seemingly viable ideas should be encouraged to proceed, with guidance and aid of this program. In return, the US government may be entitled to royalty, or certain equity in the value of Intellectual Property achieved. When properly structured, this program will promote citizen innovation, allow many idle minds to innovate individually, or in synergistic groups creating value, and stimulate creation of new business, or industry. Stimulate America back to be the innovation leader again.

In November of 1929, after the stock market crashed, people did not know they had entered the Great Depression. By early 1931 people thought they were in a long or great recession. But by the middle of 1932 it became obvious they were in a serious depression. For comparison sake we are still in the spring of 1931 and our leaders still think we are in a long or great recession.

We are in a depression and unless Washington wakes up and acts we will be in a great depression of our own soon enough. In the new book How America Can Escape the New Great Depression it says Washington will need to take economic action on a scale of the economic impact of World War II. That is the equivalent of having an $8 trillion stimulus package 4 years in a row.

I expect unemployment to get much worse. Even overall government employment dropped in the last report.

I always wondered if this had anything to do with America not having any industrial policy?
Is this related to with America giving China all our manufacturing methods and trade secrets, then having them sell it back to us for our financial loss, and compromised military?

I'm sure that unemployment is actually closer to 20%, when you add in the self-employed who have lost, or are in the process of losing their businesses, which is getting pretty darn close to Great Depression levels.

Hyper-inflated tuition + no jobs + non-dischargable student loan debt = recipe for revolution!
Since our own government won't protect us from Student Loan Sharks: its time for civil disobedience!
ALL student loan debtors should STOP paying NOW!
If EVERYONE stops paying these private student loans that banks borrow at 1% and then charge us up to 20%, their sleazy scheme will fall pronto!

Ever hear of the NDSL?
01:49 AM on 04/19/2009
Yes, I have. I am referring mainly to private student loans that often make up the growing difference between federal limits and rising tuition costs.

Inflated prices are caused by credit expansion.

As frustrating as it can be waiting for any changes, we must give Obama much credit. He has done more in the few months than I think we could have ever expected. Talk about multi-tasking he certainly can! He's up against some mighty forces refusing to relinquish power. On the International front, the respect and whats looks to be admiration he has is unbelievable!
I get complaining as I have my up days and down days being laid off so if any of you are my friends, PLEASE TELL ME TO SHUT THE HELL UP when I'm pissing and moaning. THANKS!!!

Still waiting here in Minnesota for Franken to be seated!

Yes, he continued to give banks bailout money.
He continued to give auto makers bailout money.
He has handed out money to State's that have yet to find a decent use for it.
He has kept many of Bush's more controversial policies in place.
He has been about as transparent as a piece of black cardboard most of the time.
He has had a rough start on his foreign policy experience.

But, I did get $13 more per paycheck. Too bad the extension of unemployment benefits will suck that right out of my pocket in an eventual rise in taxes.

I have had it with this economy talk.

In fact, I have more than had it.
What are we supposed to do?
Buy more?
Not buy?

Call politicians and write to them?
To do what?

Call Geithner and Bush and Reagan and Krugman bad names?
What would that do?

We worked hard to get Obama elected President. He says he can fix it.
I have decided to just believe him and relax.

I'll look at things again in about six months, just to see how his program is working out.

Anyone expecting what took decades to create for it to be fixed overnight cannot be taken seriously.

In fact, they should be measured for a straight jacket.

It wasn't all that high. Probably H-u-ffy didn't like some words in there, except I don't know which ones.

This word filter thing they have is the most ridiculous thing I have seen in my entire life.

What's the difference between writing f*ck and the real thing? Is there anyone who would think that f*ck is a different word?

OK, maybe some Republicans would, but rules shouldn't be made for the least common denominator.
