It's TV Turnoff Week, so just do it. From April 20 to 26 join millions of people worldwide and switch off your set. Find a more rewarding and active life--at least for a week.

Last year 5 million people in the USA alone turned off the box and found that they had all sorts of extra time to do things they had been meaning to do. Like talk to their friends, read a book, take a walk...

I might be persuaded to turn off the TV for a week -- AFTER Lost, 24, Desperate Housewives, Heroes, The Amazing Race, and Grey's Anatomy have finished their current season. Oh, and then there's Mad Men coming soon. Oh and then there's America's Got Talent. Oh, and then...

Oh dammit all to hell.

How come the sit-com families on TV never seem to watch TV? Because it's not funny?

We disconnected cable, and threw away the rabbit ears and other TV reception devices in 2003. Life is better. My daughter's each play 2 different instruments and have 4.0 averages. I get a lot of evening woodworking done. My wife reads more.

Life is better without TV.

When is turn off computer week, internet is much worse than the tv. Children exposed to the web can be horrible content and adults need to take a break and get a life,

Dear treehugger.com,
how about I just go on about my business,
which includes being aware of my impact on
things around me, and I still watch my cartoons
to relax for an hour at night?

Everybody's got a bandwagon,
sorry, my song seems to be a solo.

My old school husband is addicted to the boob tube and I'm addicted to the "intertubes" ... pick yer poison. Someday I'll unplug everything and go back to being a bookworm. Not this week ... unfortunately.

I haven't had a cable bill in 8 years. I saved nearly $6,000 and I'm still saving money and time from not watching T.V. I have done many productive things with my time. For entertainment, I rent DVD's at RedBox for $1 each at my local supermarket and I have a netflix subscription. I watch news video on my computer.
Basically I'm very happy that I don't watch T.V. programs like I used to do.
Turnoff T.V. week is great and I hope people really try it and take it to another level, canceling their cable subscriptions.

And why exactly is life away from TV so rewarding? Oh, because reading a book in *intrinsically* more enriching than watching a televised comedy or drama? And what librarian came up with that myth?
