Meryl Streep

usatoday.com:

Next, Streep juggles pots, pans and pâté in what promises to be a deliciously rich portrait of Julia Child during the decade-long span when she evolved into America's queen of French cuisine in Julie & Julia. Joining her is Amy Adams, her nun sidekick from Doubt, as blogger Julie Powell, who spent a year toiling over all 524 recipes in Child's classic Mastering the Art of French Cooking.

Director/writer Nora Ephron, who did the screenplays for Streep's Silkwood (1983) and Heartburn (1986), says the actress basically did an informal audition for her a couple of Junes ago when they bumped into each other at New York's Shakespeare in the Park.

I will look forward to this film. Loved Julia and am a huge fan of Meryl. This should be one entertaining movie.

My idol was Julia. The lady was someone who knew food, how to fix anything with whipped cream, gravy, parsley, and great humor. Did she take herself seriously? Hell No. Was she always patting herself on the back like the foodies on the food network? No again. She didn't need to, her skills spoke volumes, knowledge that can't be covered up with cutsey pooh antics. The day she went toe to toe with Martha Stewart and Martha had the gall to riff her on live tv, was priceless. Did the grand damn of food lose her cool that her pie wasn't perfect? Hell No. She just made a joke, gave a back handed compliment to Martha and went on. Classy to the end. Watching Meryl do Julia will be a treat. I know for fact when Martha was portrayed in that film, it was spot on. Yes, Martha really was that god awful and wonderful at the same time. It will be interesting to see if they capture Julia just as carefully. I raise my glass of chateau la tour, nibble my caviar and pate in her honor. NOt. Kidding, more like french roast coffee and french toast. Bon Appetit!

No one can do Julia Child like Dan Akroyd did on SNL. OMG that was the funniest skit I have ever seen.

Didn't Julia work for the OSS (British secret service) during the war? I wonder if the movie will talk about her war experience.
Its a great pick for Meryl to do this and I'm sure it won't be just a spoof, I'm looking forward to seeing it.

OMG I can't wait!! My kid's all grew up with Julia on PBS every Sat morning when I would come into the living room and turn off cartoons and turn on Julia followed by Yan Can Cook. Yes, this before the Food Network and yes at the time we only had one TV. Can't wait.

Just the mere fact that Julia Child will be an amazing feat, I think. And now, to know that Meryl Streep will play here makes me smile due to the quirkiness of Julia Child... just to think of Ms Streep doing the ol' jokes about fod and stuff while Child was juiced on some table wine makes it worth it

The actor of our time? DeNiro, Daniel Day Lewis, Pacino... lots of opinions, all justifiable, but...
for me, it's Meryl Streep. She can do anything, everything, and pretty much has. Look at the range and the depth of performances over the years. Extraordinary. And she's a mature, happy person to boot, grounded in family. What a woman.

Another hoot of a part for the great Meryl. As with "Doubt", if Streep keeps on going with these delicious roles, she'll keep drag queens in business for decades to come.

Streep has to make sure that she keeps the wine ready. I think Julia was almost drunk by the time the meal was ready.

I loved her...Julia was too funny!

Ah! She'll need to beef up those forearms! The things I remember most about watching Julia Child are first, that strange voice and inflection -- second, the fabulous cooking techniques -- and third: big strong arms.

Julia Child was a force of nature.

Wow! I hope Meryl can do her justice! I bet she does!

And don't forget the sips of wine between stirs, additions and all. Julia looked a tad sloshed at the end of each show. : - )
