State Getting Another $100 Million For Unemployment Insurance
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- The federal government is giving Illinois an additional $100 million for its unemployment insurance program.
Illinois gets the money because it allows more people to qualify for unemployment benefits than many other states do. The criteria used in Illinois mean that people in some excluded job categories or with limited time on the job can collect unemployment.
U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis said Monday that the Illinois policy is good for workers and for the state's economic recovery.
Illinois can use the $100 million for administrative costs or directly for unemployment benefits.
