Last week the Department of Justice released memos detailing techniques used for interrogation of terrorism suspects aka torture memos. This decision by President Obama has been lauded by some, but several members of the Bush administration and their supporters have been making the rounds on Fox News and the Sunday talk shows saying it was a huge mistake. A former Bush administration official told Politico:

"It's damaging because these are techniques that work, and by Obama's action today, we are telling the terrorists what they are. We have laid it all out for our enemies. This is totally unnecessary...Publicizing the techniques does grave damage to our national security by ensuring they can never be used again..."

Jon Stewart took on these men and women last night saying, "Do you really have to waterboard somebody 183 times? Doesn't the efficacy go down? I assume after 90 waterboardings the guy's thinking 'you're not really drowning me.'"

We're talking about a mastermind of 9-11. To imply that the US believes in waterboarding every suspect is a prime example of hyperbole, hysteria and false supposition.

OK, it's really a character issue.

The guy said to her, "I'll give you $100,000 to 'sleep with you."
She consented.
He went on, "How about $100?"
She replied, "I'm no hooker."
He said, "OK sure, but now that we've agreed that you are wiling
I'm just negotiating the price."

Some are believing the end justifies the means ie: The lives lost in 9/11, our paranoia, or our ineffectiveness justify torture when really, our personal and collective character is on the line. Others equivocate with, "Only three were waterboarded, doctors were present, or argue the effectiveness of the torture.

Our reality is that we tortured. What have we become and what will we do about it?

The former Bush official's comments to Politico are hilarious. Rather than releasing secret information that makes the tactics useless, I understood that they originated in the 50's and were used on US POWs in Korea. And as for being unable to use methods like waterboarding in the future as a result ... Well Hello, is that not the general idea !

I don't need some clown like Stewart to take on the torture supporters...his smarmy smart a-- idiocy only trivializes a serious issue.

I normally love Jon Stewart, but torture is just such a dark, unfunny subject. Can't find the funny in this. The lies, the evil deeds, It's all too repulsive.

I'm mad about this waterboarding and insect stuff. I can't believe, they let the "freedom fighters", as libs call them, off with this grade school, so called, t0rture.

I guess you missed the part about how the detainees had already told us everything they knew BEFORE we started waterboarding, etc. And maybe you missed the part about how it's against the Geneva Conventions and International Law... Oh, sorry, I forgot, you "no-libs" are above all that...

I agree! As long as America is going to torture, let's pull out the big ones like peeling off fingernails or listenin' to Lee Greenwood.

I guess you got it right, but I would have seen you say let's get rid of Bush and company and then prosecute them in the Haig. How is we welcome ourselves to other shores and pluck the bad guys out but seem down right stupid to seeing it happen here?China and it's money will change that, sooner than you think.

Mysterious? the way Noonan said that was so condescending it made me ill. Apparently, she likes not knowing anything, so she doesn't have to think for herself. Strange attitude for a so-called journalist.

And frankly, that's exactly what the relugs do -- for 8 long wretched years, they treated the American people like children. I can only assume that the reason some people still support this way of governing is because relugs prefer to have a big daddy to 'fix' everything. they fixed it alright.

And now those who supported them don't want to see what they really did -- they'd rather continue to pretend, rather than grow up and actively engage in citizenship. shameful.

Once again, the hypocrisy of the libs is blatant; not one will admit that congress was briefed BE4 any harsh inter oga tions were done. No one is talking about WClinton sending kid napped "manmade dest ructors" to countries where they would be tortu red. Only repubs are being targ eted in this latest farce, why should congress try to do any thing practical like social security or border security or the issue of millions of illegals, both working and crimminal, when it can dis tract voters by rou sing an ger against lib en e my number one: Pres Bush?

You're right, Clinton is right in there with them on that. It doesn't make the Bush Admin. any less culpable for their deeds. Disgusting.

I would like to thank the strong leaders who saved us and our country after 911. They did what was needed to stop our enemies after first seeking legal counsel. If this retro investigation is allowed for criminal action, where will it end and who will ever feel free to speak/take action again in this country. I do not think mainstream America will put up with this. This is another liberal endeavor to stifle the opposition when the administration should be dealing with the important issues of saving the economy. Shame on MoveOn.Org, the Dem's, Obama and Dept of Justice for yet another outrageous action and trying to further their political correctness agenda to isolate any opposition.
