Miss California

Miss California Carrie Prejean says she prays for Miss USA judge blogger Perez Hilton.

On MSNBC's 9 AM hour Tuesday, the beauty contestant, who may have won had it none been for her answer to Hilton's question about gay marriage, also said she's sorry for him.

After Tamron Hall played a clip of Perez defending his remarks that Prejean is "a bitch" and "the c word," she asked Miss California what she thought of his attacks.

"I can only say to him that I will be praying for him. I feel sorry for him, I really do," Prejean said. "I think he's angry, I think he's hurt. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. He asked me specifically what my opinion was on that subject and I gave him an honest answer."

She also said she has been surprised at the support she has gotten since Sunday's Miss USA pageant and the lack of hate she has received.

While I may think this is a no-brainer, I know that there are many who disagree. Some of these folks base their disagreement on religious interpretations and teachings. I have no problem with that. We can't force people to believe as we do.

She has a right to voice her opinion when asked.
He has a right to be married to another man.

I saw Miss North Carolina on the news. They asked the same "gay marriage" question. Of course, she was prepared, unlike miss California in the pageant... Ms N.C. gave the perfect, polically-correct, non-answer..she would leave it to the states to decide..So, does she agree or disagree? I don't know.

And I weep for little Ms. California. Bless her heart, does she really think that California is a country. It's as if she "ain't got no education".

As much as i disagree with Miss Prejean's position, I have nothing but respect for her for standing by what she believes in. Berating someone for what their own personal beliefs are is preposterous. Frankly, it is the pageant organizer's fault for even putting in this question. No matter which way Miss California answered, she would have made some group unhappy. The way Perez Hilton handled the situation shows a total lack of class. Why was he even a judge for the pageant? What is the criterion to be picked as a judge for this thing? With degenerates likes these picking our Miss USAs, it is no wonder we fare so poorly in the Miss Universe contest.

Uh, this woman is too dumb to be Miss U.S.A. She thought gay marriage was already legal. and, she does not articulate well. Doesn't Miss U.S.A. have to like go places and talk to people? She is proof that the more illiterate a person is, the more conservative they are....in general, the more intelligent you are the more able you can process information and realize that equal rights for everyone is important to keep everyone free. The amount of discrimination is related to level of freedoms in a country. Intelligent people realize that judging others opens the door to being judged yourself.

i am so tired of this closed minded attitude that people have . what is the difference who marries whom? just mind your own business. nobody is asking you to marry the same sex. it's just such fear based thinking...old paradigm that needs to just go away. the person who is asking to be able to marry as they please, is not asking you to give up your right to practice your conservative ultra christian views. they are just asking to be able to live there lives as a human...which the last time i checked, we all were that. humans. we all have the same color blood running through our veins, flesh covering our bones, dreams that we aspire to....
miss CA...i could go on and right tons of judgements on how you look, your brain capacity, your views on others that are different from you...would you have the grace to listen?
don't be so filled with fear....

You white Liberals need to ask Black Americans if they really equate Gay Marriage as a Civil Rights issue just like Dr. King in the 60's. I'd be willing to bet 70% would say not just NO, but heck NO.

I am a Black American, and moreover a successful lawyer and history scholar. I have read the Constitution, case law and history treatises that most Americans of all ilk never have and probably never will. I believe that gay marriage is an equivalent civil rights issue, and actually have the technical knowledge to back up my opinion. If that puts me in the 30% you apparently disagree with and disparage, well I'm proud of that. Read for example the text of Loving v. Virginia and all of the briefs submitted to the Supreme Court (and the text of the kinds of statutes that case challenged) and then tell me what the difference is. Maybe just your personal opinion of the "victims"?

If you want, we can ask White Americans circa 1776 whether or not the constitutional protection of the rights of citizens extended to Black people. History moves on and I'm willing to bet that, one generation from now, 70+% of black people will probably look back on this issue as being ridiculously backward.

If it helps, being gay can STILL get you lynched in some places and beaten in most, if you're caught without sufficient witnesses. If their plight is one of Civil Rights, then this the Gay Marriage cause basically equal to the cause of Interracial Marriage, which was still illegal in most states when our current president's birth parents got interracially married.

Anyone could have gotten this loaded question, but I am proud of 'barbie' for standing up for herself and telling the truth. I just wish she would have been a little more wise with her choice of words. The blogger will not accomplish anything by being aggressive & hateful - even if he is supporting equal rights in my view - it will do more harm than help the situation the country is in......

I'm not a fan of Perez Hilton, and I think he's hurting the the fight for marriage equality more than helping it.

What I find disturbing about many of the comments posted here, though, is that there are people who find Hilton's use of profanity more offensive than the fact that Prejean basically said she's OK with an entire segment of the population being denied marriage rights. (And before anyone jumps down my throat: no, she did not explicitly say that, but the phrase she used to qualify her statement -- "in my country" -- speaks volumes and smacks of Sarah Palin's infamous "real America".)

I wonder if people would feel differently if Miss CA had made the same statement about a group of people other than gay men and lesbians?

I'm against Gay Marriage and LOVE what Perez Hilton is doing. He is setting the Homosexual agenda back more than anyone else could've. I'm just going to sit back and let him keep it up.

The "homosexual agenda" is a myth created by the religious right wing in the U.S. You just proved that you can't participate in a rational discussion.

With every passing day, same-sex marriage becomes more accepted in the U.S. Perez Hilton won't change that. Neither will you.

Miss Cali, girl you need to get over it. You were trying to give a Sara Palin airhead anser to the question. Didn't you get the memo that we the people are smarter than that? You should have just stuck to your guns and stated that you were brought up to believe marriage should be between a man and woman, and left it at that. You started to go airhead and knocked yourself out of the crown. Duh!

Guess the judges made the right decision. The "I'm going to pray for you" response (in this context), usually indicates a narrow-minded, sanctimonious person...not at all the kind of person who should be representing this country...even if it is just a beauty queen.

I'm not bothered by her answer much, personally. Whatever, she can think what she wants. I am bothered by the fact that she is being called brave and honest for "her" answer. The woman basically said the same thing Forrest Gump always did: "My momma always said..." On the basis of what principle does parroting one's parents amount to anything even remotely resembling bravery or honesty? Somehow, saying "that's just how I was raised" ALONE is seen as a valid reason for opinions and beliefs in this country. Gimme a break...

Personally, I am so sick of the right being allowed to hide behind tradition alone to back up their answers. It's intellectually weak and hollow.

Carrie and SarahPAC are going to put out a barbie doll that says: "In "my country," in "Real America" where we torture prisoners of war and silence scientists, I believe discrimination based on opposite sexuality is the good Christian thing to do."
On the box there will be a picture of a dead foetus, and in big letters"
Real America: Land of Homophobia - the other Christian value!

I meant "degrading" in the previous post. Typo..please don't single it out as a sign of my intelligence. Also..another thought..what did Hilton excpect with an unbelievably loaded question like that? Either answer is going to raise hell. It's a dam ned if you do, dam ned if you don't kind of question.
