Meghan McCain Slams Cheney, Rove: "You Had Your Eight Years--Go Away" (VIDEO)

Meghan McCain, serving as a co-host of "The View" today, wasted little time before getting in a shot at former Vice President Dick Cheney and Karl Rove. McCain, who had previously written about how she found Karl Rove following her on Twitter "creepy," complained that Cheney and Rove are still trying to be seen as the face of the Republican Party. Last week McCain observed that the GOP leadership is "scared shitless" of the changing political landscape.

McCain mentioned disapprovingly Cheney's repeated public criticisms of Obama--which he voiced again on Fox News this week--and referred to the DNC ad released this week portraying Cheney, Rove and Gingrich as the 'new face of the GOP.' She pointed out that it's "very unprecedented for someone like Karl Rove or Dick Cheney to be criticizing the President." Her advice to them: "Go away."

Still, I appreciate her advice ("go away") and hope it also applies to a certain long-term senator whom she may have some chance of influencing.

I'd like to think that Meghan McCain is the face of the future republican party. We NEED more than one party, and we all need to be able to discuss the issues and reach consensus--at least on most things. Reading about the tea party crackpots makes me think we will never be able to do that. The social, religious conservatives appear to be rigid, inflexible, and violent if they don't get their way. A healthy society can't tolerate too many of that kind.

Meghan will never make it in the Republican party. She is too pragmatic and wants to do the right thing for the country instead of the right wing thing. She certainly is a breath of fresh air.

Ideologues have moved the GOP to the position it occupies today. It's becoming a fringe party that appeals to an ever-decreasing segment of the US population. Meghan McCain recognizes this, and her awareness of the shifting political sands as well as her pragmatism make her an ideal catalyst for change within the party. The problem is, it's much more likely that the neo-con "true believers," given their power positions within the party, will continue to marginalize her as they have marginalized mainstream America.

The GOP can't seem to get clear in their minds that the 26% of the electorate who think W did a fantastic job and believe Obama is an socialist Arab and believe that Jesus loves Repbulicans and wars and hates unions are NOT ENOUGH to win elections going forwad. The longer they glom on to this "base" that they're so proud of, the smaller their chances become of winning elections in places that aren't bastions of Pentacostal preaching and/or backwards thinking about social and economic issues.

I'm not a Republican, yet I'm open and accept those Republicans who are thoughtful and intelligent. Yes , they do exist. A bit sad she has a national forum to do it, but a thinking person can separate the wheat from the chaff. As to her opinion on wether Cheney and Rove should go away, they had their 8 yrs, I agree. However, as long as the MSM gives them a voice, why would they? The country is changing, I don't attribute too much of that to President Obama. Conservatives don't like change, that is why they are labeled conservative. Liberals don't like the status quo, they are always working to change, that is what makes them tick.
