I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Meghan McCain, serving as a co-host of "The View" today, wasted little time before getting in a shot at former Vice President Dick Cheney and Karl Rove. McCain, who had previously written about how she found Karl Rove following her on Twitter "creepy," complained that Cheney and Rove are still trying to be seen as the face of the Republican Party. Last week McCain observed that the GOP leadership is "scared shitless" of the changing political landscape.

McCain mentioned disapprovingly Cheney's repeated public criticisms of Obama--which he voiced again on Fox News this week--and referred to the DNC ad released this week portraying Cheney, Rove and Gingrich as the 'new face of the GOP.' She pointed out that it's "very unprecedented for someone like Karl Rove or Dick Cheney to be criticizing the President." Her advice to them: "Go away."

I say it again: Meghan McCain gets it. There is a place for a fiscally conservative party; there is a role for an economic watchdog party; there is a place for a party in American politics that believes, "The business of America is business." There may be an honorable future for the Republican Party as there was an honorable past. Any Democratic administration could benefit from having a loyal opposition.

That being said, a thoroughly discredited political psychopath, like Karl Rove, can add nothing to the future of that party. Rove should be conferring with lawyers to keep his past crimes from putting him in prison for the rest of his miserable life. Dick Cheney so disgraced high office, when he was in office, that his out-of-office comments merit nothing but contempt.

Cheney, Rove and Gingrich speak only to the base of the GOP; they speak to people who believe nonsense and embrace lies as long as they're presented with a nasty edge. They are speaking to fools but, after the last eight years, no one should doubt the depth of that pool. The problem for the Republican Party is that there are not enough fools for the GOP to be competitive in national elections and not enough reasonable people willing to be associated with fetus-obsessed "creationists" or numb-nuts-apologists for torture and global-warming deniers. These liars are left to start small fires to light up a little tent.

"Cheney, Rove and Gingrich speak only to the base of the GOP"

The base of the GOP is just that. Base. Rove and Cheney should be charged for the crimes they committed over the past 8 years. They are bored right now and getting up to too much mischief with too much time on their hands. Take them to the Hague.

The right wing is definitely scared *blank*less of the future and Meghan because that kid doesn't drink the kool-aid of xenophobia. That doesn't mean she is liberal or conservative, she just knows right from wrong. Its called pragmatism. I kindda like her and I'm a straight Dem voter. She might give some future Dem a run for his/her money in the 2030s if she were so inclined to run for president.

Don't ever change Meghan. Teach those old fo ols in your party a thing or two about progress.

She may still be soft peddling towards being Democratic, after all her father just lost the Republican Presidency. She is still young and new to broadcasting but I think she could turn out to be Democratic and a good spokesperson wherever she lands.
I can think of a few children of Republican Presidents who are now very progressive and Democrats,
Stephanie Miller, ( her father ran as VP with Goldwater) , Ron Reagan an probably Patti Reagan.
I can't think of any from Democratic to Repulican.

She'll have to do 10 more years before she gets any traction; those old men in the Republican party will see she has no effect.

So true! Speaking of which, was she not on the show that day? Or was it that Meghan was subbing for her? I noticed she was sitting in Hasselbeck's usual spot.

I can't stand Elizabeth Hasselbeck, I don't even like her SUPER shiny lipglossy, icky looking lips because stuff comes out of there that makes me want to gag her.

Why does everyone want to make this kid into a Democrat? If she thinks she's a Republican, then who are we to say otherwise? People don't belong to a party just because of it's ideology. There's a host of other influences, such as local power politics, personal associations and just the fact that you were raised in the party. It can be kinda like being a Catholic. Maybe you believe in the catechism. Maybe you just had it pounded into your head as a kid.

She's young. She's trying to build herself a media career. Give the kid a break and let her do her work.

Meghan McCain is a hot mess train wreck - where is the Meghan McCain show already?

What a great example of someone who is given the benefit of the doubt based on her looks.

She would be a riot as a news commentator - no filter/no holds barred/speaky no thinky.

Refreshing, if not particularly sophisticated, intelligent or deep. Fun!

A Duh-publican.

This young lady has class and although I am not a Republican (I am an independent) I admire her honesty and her intelligence. I hope she can exact some change because the GOP certainly needs it.

The more Rove and the Ex VP are on TV the more the current GOP could be swayed to prosecute them for something whether guilyt or not. Part of the American political design is the transfer of power. I guess these two didn't get that memo.

I love Meghan McCain... she is so aware of what is wrong with the neo-cons who have hijacked the party!!

She is the type of Republican that young, right leaning INDYS like myself have been waiting for..... until those pig headed men start listening to her, the party is headed straight towards extinction.

Go MEGHAN

It seems like Meghan McCain is the only voice of reason to be heard from the GOP. Cheney is out to lunch and the other talking heads are way off track.
Keep up the good work, Meghan!!

Ms. McCain -- I have a request. Could you please get GOP spokesmen to stop saying "Democrat" Party, as though we're all so stupid that we might mistake the term "Democratic" for something "good?" It's so juvenile, it's embarrassing.

Thank you, thank you! Nothing makes my skin crawl like hearing some right wing weasel (and now pretty much any Republican) refer to the Democratic Party as the democrat party. It is an insult and meant to be an insult. And yes it makes me mad!
