I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Meghan McCain, serving as a co-host of "The View" today, wasted little time before getting in a shot at former Vice President Dick Cheney and Karl Rove. McCain, who had previously written about how she found Karl Rove following her on Twitter "creepy," complained that Cheney and Rove are still trying to be seen as the face of the Republican Party. Last week McCain observed that the GOP leadership is "scared shitless" of the changing political landscape.

McCain mentioned disapprovingly Cheney's repeated public criticisms of Obama--which he voiced again on Fox News this week--and referred to the DNC ad released this week portraying Cheney, Rove and Gingrich as the 'new face of the GOP.' She pointed out that it's "very unprecedented for someone like Karl Rove or Dick Cheney to be criticizing the President." Her advice to them: "Go away."

I was really impressed with Norah. Wow. As for Liz Cheney, correct me if I'm wrong but I think I read an article six or so months ago that she wrote some sort of legal dissertation at university that was pretty hard core right wing, may have in fact been about torture, and if memory serves me correctly, has been used by her dad. I wish I could be clearer on this - I'll try to find the article.

I just found it:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/30/liz-cheneys-college-thesi_n_162712.html

~snip~

"The 125-page treatise argued that, constitutionally and historically, presidents have virtually unchecked powers in war. Thirteen years before her father became vice president, she had symbolically authored the first legal memorandum of the Bush administration, laying out the same arguments that would eventually justify Guantanamo and extraordinary rendition, wiretapping of American citizens, and, broadly, the unitary theory of the executive that shaped the Bush presidency."

Scary stuff..... it puts the interview into better context, don't you think?

Thanks for the reference to the article. Very interesting. Liz Cheney's thesis is totally based on what her father preached to her from infancy I would guess. After the shameful exit by
Nixon, I can remember Cheney saying that the problem all along had been that the President should have more power and that he was going to do all he could in the future to increase presidential powers, he finally succeed with Bush 43's reign.

At least she says what many are thinking and doesn't seem to care they are in her own party. I am fascinated as to why she is overexposed though.

Meghan, as a young woman, is figuring things out like most of us did at that age. I think she is a Republican out of loyalty to her father, but is slowing realizing that dad's party is full of it. I think she'll bolt the party once she figures things out a little further, or when her dad leaves politics, unless the Republicans actually do make thae changes she suggests. (fat chance)

I'm tired of the media giving Meghan McCain a platform. Sorry sweetie, but you haven't earned it, and and you are not as interesting as you think you are, as your handlers pretend you are, and the media imagines you are. I'm tired of you, Meghan. You are a MODERATE DEMOCRAT. You are a moderate progressive in everything you say and do. Stop with this pathetic masquerade. We know you're daddy's girl; are you trying to save ol John boy a heart attack? This dishonesty is not charming, it's grating. You have decided to take a public persona, and thus are available for public ridicule. I will not listen to a word you have to say until you stop with this "I'm a Republican" charade that you feel you have to continue for who knows what reason. You are not a Republican. Stop it. Now. Your cuteness and tens of millions you stand to inherit will only buy you so much "credibility". Your dishonesty about who you are, what you stand for and your politics is just the same as the worst of who you criticize.

Meghan belongs to new generation of REpublican. Honest, Inteligent with integrity. That what Republican party needs.

My parents were life-long Republicans, but became candidate-by-candidate after Republican government officials interfered in the Terry Schiavo (sp?) family matter.

They lined up with Ms. McCain on issues ... not with the Boehners and Cornyns of the party ... and their participation and policies were the mainstream party before the political awakening of evangelical Christians

If you want to win elections again, Ms. McCain is the face of your future.

I get the cute part, but I thought things like "pathetic", "masquerade", "dishonesty", "grating", "charade", and "daddy's girl" were pretty much standard republican attributes.

So that's the new mantra of the GOP, to burn the person who criticizes its own party. Sheesh, no one can have a difference of opinion without being burned at the stake? No wonder....well I'll keep the rest to myself. But that explains a lot.

I vote smart. Every time she opens her mouth, the media pick it up. She's everywhere she can be, and the only reason she is anywhere is because she criticizes republicans (which is A-OK with me). I just don't know why anyone cares.

Many on this site don't like anything that comes out of a republican's mouth---because they are scarred and who can blame them. But I think Ms. McCain is right on with her comments about Rove, Gingrich and Cheney. And if I were a republican (God forbid) and I saw my party for what it had devolved to, I'd be saying the same things she is.

Not sure why so many are enamored with this member of the McCain brood. My skepticism is due to the fact that all she has done thus far is get some high profile media talking spots but nothing of real merit or impact yet. I'm not sure a BA in art history is profoundly relevant to a political career given the complex technical, economic and geopolitical issues the country and the world face. There's an underlying agenda here and I want to know more about it because she sounds only somewhat center of the right we're used to hearing from, nothing more. GQ quotes her as voting for Kerry in in '04 which only makes her a younger female version of Joe Lieberman. A decent marketing strategy for the right would out of necessity include a way to attract the under 30 demographic so she's perfect for that.

She's right. It IS unprecedented for a former Vice President or a former President to openly criticize a sitting President. Cheney has no character and little or no credibility and the same could be said of Rove. It's also a lack of class. These two men just about destroyed our constitution and our country and now they want to sit in judgment of this President? I think NOT! If they keep running their mouths, they may wind up being indicted for the crimes they both committed while in the White House and wind up taking their leader down with them. That is what I would call Justice!

I believe so. Their viewpoints are very similar. She has the same idiology, but has the perspective of her generation. She is more tolerant of gays and minorities. She can use a computer to do things other than play solitare. She can see what the GOP looks like to people under one million years old. Other than that, she is a Republican in every sense of the word.
