They are among the 5.1 million people across the country who have lost jobs in a recession that has put more men than women out of work, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

In Pelham Manor, unemployed fathers can now be seen at the elementary school and the grocery stores, or walking with children along the quiet streets, taking their places, by necessity, in the largely women's world of childcare, housework and school life.

Im sorry the dads should already be doing stuff like that. and why are they being called mr. mom when doing things they should already be doing when its involving the children. why do most women have to deal with the children whlie men dont? and please dont say it aint true because i know it is. u can go anywhere at anytime and all u see are women and kids. where is daddy? why is he off with his friends somewheres? man i give u women who allow that props because it wont be that way in my household. i believe men should be like at LEAST like charles on little house on the prairie after his wife got her job. ugh he's so fine. and at most they should do all the things listed in the article without being call mom because those things are just supposed to be done.

My husband is laid off right now and I am working.. I must say I am very proud of him for all the work he has been doing.. he wakes in the morning with me to get my son ready for school, drives him to school everyday, cooks dinner and cleans ( not to my standards but Hey! Why complain)
I must say I think he prefer's it this way, I can tell he is enjoying every minute of it! Too bad he has to go back to work next month. HA HA.

I hate that term "Mr. Mom." I currently work full time, but there have been periods where I stayed home with my kids full time, and there was never a "Mr. Mom." I prefer the appropriate term: "Dad." I thought this kid of emasculation of nurturing men went out in the 80s, but I guess not. Not only did I do everything that a mom would do, I also got my beard pulled like a ripcord by my babies, and not many moms can say that.

Economic crisis inspires early 80s movie flashback!

Now we just need an environmental crisis to trigger a flashback to The Incredible Shrinking Woman...
